Valkyrie Spear — Hand-Forged Fantasy Viking Spear with Winged Blade
The Everest Forge Valkyrie Spear is our most ornate spear — a hand-forged Norse-fantasy showpiece with a winged, skeletonized blade and a decorated grip. Two swept wings flare from the throat of the blade in the manner of a true winged Viking spear, while a long slot is cut clean through the centre of the steel, so light passes through the heart of the blade. The long handle is wrapped in leather, stacked with polished metal collars, and capped with a turned finial pommel — the kind of detailing that turns a weapon into a centrepiece. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang, it is real, battle-ready steel beneath all that ornament.
At 40 inches it is the longest and most commanding spear we make, built for collectors who want a Norse-fantasy piece with genuine presence — something worthy of a Valkyrie, the shield-maidens of Norse myth who chose the slain and carried them to Valhalla. It is for fantasy and Viking enthusiasts, cosplayers and creators, and serious collectors who want the real forged article rather than a cast prop. Like the rest of our work, it is forged to your spec — six blade lengths, four finishes, six grip-wrap colours, six scabbard colours, and free engraving, all included.
Note: The Valkyrie Spear is an original Everest Forge fantasy design inspired by Norse myth and the historical winged spear. It is not a licensed replica of any film, game, or other brand's product, and at 40 inches it is a long hand spear, not a full six-foot pole spear.

The Winged Spear
The wings at the base of the blade are not just for show. Winged spears — sometimes called lugged or winged-lug spears — were a genuine Viking and medieval design, where projections at the throat of the blade stopped the spear from over-penetrating and could catch and bind an opponent's weapon. The Valkyrie Spear takes that historical feature and pushes it into fantasy: bold, swept wings paired with a long slot cut clean through the centre of the blade, so the steel reads as an open, winged silhouette.
The skeletonized cut-out is a real structural feature, not surface etching — it lightens the long blade and gives the spear its dramatic, see-through profile, while the steel stays full and strong around it. The result is a blade that looks like it belongs to myth but is forged like a working weapon.
An Ornate Norse-Fantasy Showpiece
Where most of our spears are plain and businesslike, the Valkyrie is deliberately ornate. The long handle is wrapped in leather, stacked with polished metal collars, and finished with a turned finial pommel — details that catch the light and give the spear the feel of a hero's or a god's weapon rather than a field tool. At 40 inches, with the winged skeletonized blade up top, it is built to be the centrepiece of a display, not lost on a rack.
It is named for the Valkyries — the shield-maidens of Norse myth who chose who lived and who died in battle and carried the worthy to Valhalla. As an original Everest Forge fantasy design, it is yours to personalise into a piece worthy of that legend.
Why Fantasy Fans & Collectors Choose This Spear
It is a true showpiece. A winged, skeletonized blade and an ornate, collared, leather-wrapped grip make it the most dramatic spear in our range.
It is real forged steel, not a cast prop. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — genuine weight and a real edge behind the fantasy looks.
It is the largest we make. At 40 inches with a 15-inch blade as standard, it has presence that smaller spears cannot match.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Six blade lengths, four finishes, six grip-wrap colours, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.
It is distinct from our other fantasy spears. Where the Shadow is dark and tactical and the Phantom is broad and bright, the Valkyrie is ornate, winged, and ceremonial.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the winged blade and aligning the grain for strength.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Skeletonize & Dress
The centre slot is cut and cleaned by hand, your finish is applied, the handle is wrapped with leather and collars, the finial pommel is fitted, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil), paying attention to the edges of the cut-out and the metal collars.
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended for this piece.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Grip & collars: Keep the leather wrap dry and treat occasionally with leather conditioner; buff the metal collars and pommel with metal polish.

What is a winged spear, and is this one functional?
A winged spear has projections, or wings, at the base of the blade. It is a real Viking and medieval design, where the wings stopped the spear over-penetrating and could catch an opponent's weapon. The Valkyrie takes that form into fantasy with bold swept wings. It is fully functional — hand-forged 5160 steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — not just a display casting.
What is the slot cut through the blade?
It is a skeletonized cut-through slot — a long opening cut clean through the centre of the blade by hand, not surface etching. It lightens the long blade and gives the Valkyrie its open, see-through silhouette, while the surrounding steel stays full and strong.
How is it different from your Shadow and Phantom Spears?
All three are hand-forged fantasy spears with skeletonized blades, but each has its own character. The Shadow is dark and tactical with a ring pommel; the Phantom is broad and bright; the Valkyrie is the ornate, winged, ceremonial one — the longest and most decorated, with a collared, leather-wrapped grip and a finial pommel.
How is it different from your standard Viking Spear?
Our Viking Spear is the traditional, historically grounded broad-leaf Norse war spear. The Valkyrie is a fantasy interpretation — a winged, skeletonized, ornate showpiece inspired by Norse myth rather than a faithful historical spear. Choose the Viking Spear for authenticity, the Valkyrie for drama and display.
Is the Valkyrie Spear based on a movie or game?
No. It is an original Everest Forge fantasy design inspired by Norse mythology and the historical winged spear. It is not a licensed replica of any specific film, game, or other maker's product.
How big is it?
As standard it is 40 inches overall — a 15-inch winged blade on a 25-inch handle — which makes it the longest spear in our range. You can size the blade anywhere from 10 to 20 inches, so it can be made even more imposing or a little more compact.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose from six blade lengths (10 to 20 inches), four blade finishes, six leather grip-wrap colours, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction keeps real strength behind the ornament.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, display, collection, and cosplay or reenactment posing rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have runes, my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, runes, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, sigil, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a Norse collection or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
