Where It Started — 2010, eBay, and the Kukri

Everest Forge began in 2010 with a single blade type and a single sales channel. We started selling traditional Nepali kukris on eBay — handmade in Kathmandu by blacksmiths who had been forging the blade for generations. The kukri is not just Nepal's most recognised blade. It is one of the most practically designed cutting tools ever developed — the forward curve and belly geometry delivering chopping power that a straight blade cannot match, in a form that has been refined over centuries of real-world use.

What became clear early was that buyers were not looking for decorative pieces. They wanted real, working blades — made with the same techniques and the same materials that gave the kukri its reputation among those who carried and used it seriously. That understanding has shaped every decision we have made since.

How the Forge Has Grown

From kukris, we expanded our range as the capability and confidence of our forge team grew. Our blacksmiths began forging historical and battle-ready swords — Viking, Roman, medieval, and fantasy designs for collectors and martial artists worldwide. We added survival and jungle machetes for outdoor and bushcraft buyers, tactical and historical daggers, bushcraft and hunting knives, hand-forged axes, and hunting spears.

Each expansion was driven by the same principle — if we could not make it properly, we would not make it at all. Every blade type we added to our range was forged, tested, and refined until our smiths were satisfied that it met the same standard as the kukris that started the forge. To understand the complete forging process behind every blade we produce, read our full guide on The Making.

The Forge Today

Today Everest Forge is a team of master blacksmiths, quality control specialists, sharpening experts, and scabbard makers working in our forge in Kathmandu. Every blade is made to order — forged specifically for the buyer after the order is placed, not picked from a warehouse shelf. Blade finish, handle material, blade length, scabbard style, and personalisation are all selected by the buyer on the product page before the blade enters production.

We use 5160 high carbon spring steel on every blade — a material chosen for its toughness, shock resistance, flexibility, and edge retention. Every blade is oil tempered by hand, full tang throughout, and tested through real cuts before it is approved for shipping. For buyers who want something outside our standard range, our Custom Forge service allows a blade to be commissioned and built entirely to specification — from a historical replica to a completely original design. To understand exactly what happens after you place your order, read our After You Order guide.

Free Personalisation on Every Blade

Every blade at Everest Forge can be personalised at no extra cost. A name, initials, a date, a message, a symbol, or a custom logo — engraved permanently by hand into the steel, guard, pommel, or scabbard at the finishing stage. This is available on every product in our range, selected directly on the product page before ordering. For buyers who want to upload a custom image or logo for engraving, that option is also available through the file upload tool on every product page.

Our Commitment to Our Blacksmiths

Everest Forge was built on the skill of our blacksmiths. Every blade we have ever sold was made possible by their craft, their experience, and their dedication to work they have spent their lives learning. We believe they deserve to be paid fairly, to work safely, and to benefit from the growth of the business they are building with us.

Our Forging the Future initiative contributes an additional $10 from every order directly toward the education of blacksmith children in Kathmandu. Our smiths are named individuals — not anonymous workers — credited as the makers they are on our Meet the Maker page.
