Xiphos Swords
Step into the legacy of ancient warfare with our hand-forged Xiphos swords — a timeless blade that once armed the valiant warriors of Ancient Greece. The Xiphos (Greek: ξίφος) was the primary short sword of Greek hoplites and was widely used from the 5th to 3rd centuries BCE, most notably during the Persian Wars and the Peloponnesian War.
At Everest Forge, we bring history to life using traditional blacksmithing techniques passed down through generations. Each sword is hand forged in Nepal using high-carbon 5160 spring steel, ensuring strength, durability, and cutting performance. Whether you are a historical reenactor, HEMA practitioner, or a collector, our Xiphos swords are fully functional and crafted to honor the spirit of ancient craftsmanship.
History of the Xiphos Sword
The Xiphos was carried as a secondary weapon by Greek hoplites after their primary spear, the dory, was no longer usable. Designed for close-quarters combat, its leaf-shaped, double-edged blade allowed for both powerful slashes and accurate thrusts. Its shorter length made it ideal for combat in tight formations like the phalanx.
The Xiphos evolved from earlier Bronze Age designs such as the Naue II and was among the first iron-forged weapons of the classical period. Archaeological finds suggest that hilts were made from a variety of materials, including wood, bone, and ivory. We preserve this legacy by using quality hardwoods and full tang construction in every sword.
