Hand-Forged Guts Swords — Berserk-Inspired Greatswords in 5160 Spring Steel

Four giant swords, forged to order in Kathmandu from thick 5160 leaf-spring steel: the two Golden Age greatswords Guts carries before the Eclipse, the Dragon Slayer he carries after it, and — because the people who want one usually want the other — Cloud's Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII. Every one is a real forged slab on a riveted full tang, not stainless sheet cut to an outline, and every one comes in five blade lengths with your choice of finish, wrap, fittings and scabbard or cover.

Not official or licensed products. These are independent, hand-forged interpretations. Berserk, Guts and the Dragon Slayer belong to Kentaro Miura, Studio Gaga and Hakusensha; the Buster Sword and Final Fantasy belong to Square Enix. Everest Forge is not affiliated with any of them.

These are heavy on purpose. A real two-hander with a 45-inch blade weighs under 3 kg; a Guts sword forged at the proportions of the drawing weighs three to five times that. We publish the estimated weight for every length on every page, we say plainly that these are display and collector's swords rather than cutting swords, and we offer a thinner-stock version through the order note for anyone who wants one they can actually swing.

Berserk — The Swords of Guts

Guts carries three swords across Berserk, and this collection covers all of them. Through the Golden Age arc he fights with a plain, brutally oversized mercenary greatsword — the sword of the Bazuso fight, the duel with Zodd, the hundred-man fight in the forest and the siege of Doldrey, where it breaks against Boscogn. The anime and the manga draw that sword differently, which is why we make it in two patterns. After the Eclipse he takes up the Dragon Slayer, the slab of iron Godot hammered out for a king who wanted a dragon-killing sword: “Too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough.” From that chapter to the last, he carries nothing else.

  • Guts Raider Greatsword, Golden Age Anime Pattern — the Golden Age sword as the anime draws it: near-parallel blade with a central channel, thin twin-plate riveted guard, white wrap, block pommel. Approx 6.5 kg at the 36-inch standard build. The lightest of the four and the one most people start with.
  • Guts Hundred-Man Slayer Greatsword, Golden Age Manga Pattern — the same sword as Miura draws it: tapering fullered blade, twelve-rivet block guard, 16-inch dark grip, faceted pommel. Approx 8.5 kg at the standard build.
  • Dragon Slayer Greatsword, Berserk-Inspired Slab Blade — the post-Eclipse slab: a 174 mm wedge tapering straight to the point, slotted disc collar, wrapped grip, faceted cap. Forged at a 9 mm spine so it stays under ten kilograms at 36 inches (approx 8.1 kg), with an open-back cover and shoulder harness.

Final Fantasy VII — The Buster Sword

Not a Berserk sword, and we say so on the page, but the other giant blade every collector asks for. Handed down from Angeal to Zack to Cloud, the Buster Sword is a straight single-edged slab with the clipped diagonal point, two through-holes at the ricasso, a riveted block guard and a short grip. Ours is forged at the game's proportions, 178 mm wide at an 8 mm spine, and ships with the same open-back cover and harness as the Dragon Slayer.

Which Guts Sword Should You Buy?

If you want the sword from the anime — the 1997 series or the Golden Age films — it is the Raider Greatsword. If you want the sword from the manga, it is the Hundred-Man Slayer. They are the same sword in the story and two different drawings on the page; most buyers choose by the version they grew up with. If you want the sword from the Black Swordsman onward, it is the Dragon Slayer. If you want the pair, the Raider and the Dragon Slayer together tell the whole story of Guts in two swords. If the person you are buying for plays Final Fantasy, it is the Buster Sword.

On length: 36 inches is the standard on every listing because it is the size most people can live with — unmistakably the sword on a wall, still one person's lift. The 45-inch builds are the full proportions of the drawings and weigh 10 to 14 kg bare; buy one if you have the space, the wall anchors and the back for it. The 28 and 30-inch builds are for smaller rooms, younger collectors and costume use.

Why Choose Everest Forge for a Guts Sword

  • Forged, not cut — 5160 leaf-spring steel drawn out to width on the anvil at 8 to 15 mm on the spine, with the channel or fuller hammered in. Not 3 mm stainless sheet cut to an outline.
  • Riveted full tang — one billet from point to pommel, riveted through wooden grip scales under the leather. No rat-tail tangs, no bolted-on cast handles.
  • Forged fittings — guards and pommels forged from steel, slotted and riveted as drawn; nothing cast, nothing welded on.
  • The proportions of the drawing — width, grip and guard scaled from the anime, the manga and the game model, not from a generic greatsword.
  • Honest weight — a weight table for every length on every page, and every sword photographed on the scale before it ships.
  • Five lengths, five option sets — blade length, finish, wrap, fittings and scabbard or cover on every listing, plus engraving and left-handed builds.
  • Custom forge service — for anything past 45 inches, a heavier display slab, a thinner version you can cut with, or a sword from your own reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these real steel swords or decorative replicas?

Real forged 5160 spring steel with riveted full tangs and forged fittings, hand-forged in Kathmandu. They are display and collector's swords in purpose — forged at the proportions of the drawings, they weigh 6.5 to 14 kg — but not in construction. Nothing is stainless sheet, nothing is cast, nothing is welded on.

What is the difference between the Raider sword and the Hundred-Man Slayer?

In the story, nothing: both are Guts' Golden Age greatsword, the one he carries from Bazuso to Doldrey. On the page, everything: the anime draws it with a thin twin-plate guard, a central channel and a white wrap (our Raider Greatsword), the manga with a block guard, a deep fuller, a dark grip and a faceted pommel (our Hundred-Man Slayer Greatsword). Neither name is canon. "Raider" is what replica makers call the anime drawing; "Hundred-Man Slayer" is the title Guts earns in the forest fight.

Is the Dragon Slayer the same thing as the Guts sword?

No. The Dragon Slayer is the slab Godot forged, which Guts takes up after the Eclipse and carries for the rest of the story. The "Guts sword" most sellers mean is the Golden Age greatsword he carries before it. We make both, and each page says which is which.

Is the Buster Sword a Berserk sword?

No. The Buster Sword is Cloud Strife's weapon from Final Fantasy VII, made by Square Enix, and has nothing to do with Berserk. It is in this collection because buyers of one giant sword usually want the other, and its page says plainly what it is.

How heavy are they?

At the standard 36-inch blade, between about 6.5 kg (Raider) and 8.7 kg (Buster Sword) sword-only; at 45 inches, between 10.5 and 14.2 kg. A real two-hander with a 45-inch blade weighs under 3 kg, so these are three to five times a fighting weight on purpose. Every page carries the full weight table by length, and every sword is weighed and photographed on the scale before it ships.

Can I cut or spar with a Guts sword?

They are not sold for cutting or sparring, and we would not swing a 6 to 14 kg sword at anything. A slab this thick is edge-hardened and tempered rather than hardened through and is not balanced for use. If you want a Guts sword you can actually cut with, ask in the order note for the thin-stock version at our normal longsword gauge; it is quoted individually.

Are they sharp?

Yes, by default — the edge bevels are ground and sharpened. Write "blunt" in the order note for a rounded display or stage edge.

Why do the Dragon Slayer and Buster Sword come with a cover instead of a scabbard?

Because a fully enclosed wooden scabbard for a blade 175 mm wide would weigh more than most swords, would not stay on a belt, and would split along the grain. Both ship with an open-back leather-faced wooden cover with buckle straps and a shoulder harness, so the sword rides on the back the way it is carried in the story. The two Golden Age swords are narrow enough for a conventional leather-over-wood scabbard.

Can I have the Brand of Sacrifice or franchise artwork engraved?

No. We engrave your own name, initials, dates, text, crest, logo or photograph, but not third-party trademarks or copyrighted artwork, and that includes Berserk and Final Fantasy symbols and character art.

How long does a Guts sword take?

Two to three weeks at the forge for a sword this size — three for the Dragon Slayer and Buster Sword — then seven to ten days in transit. We send progress photographs while it is forged and a photograph of the finished sword on the scale before dispatch.

Can you make one bigger, thicker, or from my own reference?

Yes, through the custom forge service: blades past 45 inches, heavy display slabs, a different guard or grip, or a sword built from your own screenshots or scans. Tell us the length and thickness and we will tell you honestly what it will weigh.
