Pike Spear — Hand-Forged Piercing Spear in 5160 Steel
The Everest Forge Pike Spear is a hand-forged piercing spear built around one job: the thrust. The long, narrow blade tapers through a stiff diamond cross-section to a fine, deep-driving point — lean, rigid, and made to punch through where a broad blade cannot. It rides on a long rosewood handle with a basketweave pattern carved directly into the wood, giving a secure, textured grip and a distinctive look without any leather wrap, finished with a wrist lanyard. It comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to butt, it is real, battle-ready steel.
This is the spear for someone who values reach and penetration over a big cutting head. The slim profile and 33-inch length make it fast and far-reaching in the hand, while the carved grip keeps it locked in your palm through hard thrusts. It is built for functional and tactical enthusiasts, hunters who want a deep-driving point, and collectors drawn to its clean, purposeful, hand-worked look. Like everything we make, it is forged to your spec — your blade length, finish, handle wood, and scabbard colour, with free engraving, all included.
Honest note: This is a 33-inch hand spear, not a six-foot pole pike on a full shaft. It is built for thrusting, hunting, field use, and display. If you want a full-length pole version, we forge those as a custom build.

Built to Pierce
The Pike Spear is forged the same way as our working blades: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the point stays hard while the spine keeps its spring, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken through the handle. What sets it apart is the geometry. The blade is drawn long and narrow with a thick diamond cross-section, so it stays stiff and resists flexing as it drives in — all of the spear's force focused behind a single fine point.
That makes it a specialist where most spears are generalists. A broad leaf blade cuts and slashes; the Pike is built to thrust deep and true, with the reach of its 33-inch length behind it. For thrusting drills, deep-driving hunting strikes where legal, and serious handling, a dedicated piercing spear like this does the job a broad blade cannot.
The Carved Grip
The Pike's handle is solid rosewood with a basketweave pattern carved directly into the wood — no leather wrap, just hand-cut texture in the timber itself. It is there for a reason: the carved pattern gives your hand real purchase on the long handle, so the spear stays locked in your grip through hard thrusts and in wet or cold conditions, where a smooth handle would slip.
It also sets the Pike apart visually. The worked pattern runs the length of the handle, catching the light and showing the hand of the maker, and a leather wrist lanyard at the butt keeps the spear secured to you in use. It is a clean, purposeful, hand-crafted detail rather than added decoration — function and looks in the same cut.
Why Functional & Tactical Users Choose This Spear
It is a true piercing specialist. A long, narrow, diamond-section blade built to thrust deep and stay stiff — not a general-purpose cutting head.
The carved grip really works. A basketweave pattern cut into the rosewood gives a secure hold through hard thrusts, with a wrist lanyard for retention.
It is real forged steel. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — genuine reach, a real point, and battle-ready strength.
It is proven. One of our better-reviewed spears, with verified five-star reviews from real buyers.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Blade length, four finishes, two handle woods, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the long narrow blade and its stiff diamond section.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard point backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Carve & Finish
Your finish is applied, the grip pattern is carved into the rosewood handle, the lanyard is fitted, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil), with attention to the point.
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle care: Treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil to keep it from drying out; the carved pattern will hold up well with basic care.

What makes the Pike Spear a piercing spear?
Its blade geometry. Where most spears have a broad leaf blade for cutting and thrusting, the Pike has a long, narrow blade with a thick diamond cross-section. That keeps it stiff and focuses all the spear's force behind a single fine point, so it is built to thrust deep and true rather than slash. It is a specialist for the thrust.
Is the handle wrapped in leather?
No. The grip pattern is carved directly into the solid rosewood handle — there is no leather wrap. The hand-cut basketweave texture gives a secure hold and a distinctive look in the wood itself, and a leather wrist lanyard at the butt helps with retention.
Why a carved grip instead of a smooth one?
The carved pattern gives your hand real purchase on the long handle, so the spear stays locked in your grip through hard thrusts and in wet or cold conditions where a smooth handle could slip. It is a functional feature first, and a good-looking one second.
Is this a real, functional spear?
Yes. It is individually hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — a genuine working piercing spear, not a cast or stainless display replica. It is built for thrusting and hard handling.
How is this different from your other spears?
The Pike is the dedicated piercing spear, with a long narrow diamond-section blade and a carved grip. The Sentinel is a tactical spear with a striking pommel; the Boar and Ranger are broad hunting spears; the Sword Spear is a gladius-style blade. Choose the Pike if reach and deep penetration are what you want.
Is it a full-length pole spear?
No. This is a 33-inch hand spear with a 21-inch handle, not a six-foot pole pike on a full shaft. The compact size keeps it easy to handle, store, and ship. If you want a full-length pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose your blade length (12-inch standard, with 10-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch options), four blade finishes, two handle woods, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard point over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction keeps the blade locked solidly through the handle for genuine working strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, display, collection, and reenactment posing rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, monogram, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a kit piece or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
