Shadow Spear — Hand-Forged Fantasy Tactical Spear with Skeletonized Blade

The Everest Forge Shadow Spear is a hand-forged fantasy tactical spear with a look as serious as its build. The long, narrow, double-edged blade is skeletonized — a long slot cut clean through the centre that drops weight and gives the spear an aggressive, unmistakable silhouette — carried on a leather-wrapped iron handle with a forged ring pommel. It comes complete with a black leather scabbard and belt strap. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to pommel, it is a real, functional spear, not a stainless display prop.

That combination is the whole idea: the dark, modern, tactical presence of a fantasy weapon, backed by the steel and construction of a working one. It is built for fantasy and weapon collectors who want a piece with genuine edge, for cosplayers and creators who need something that reads as real on camera, and for outdoor and tactical enthusiasts who want a spear they can actually use. The name comes from that dark, cut-through blade — and like the rest of our work, it is forged to your spec, with six blade lengths, four finishes, six handle-wrap colours, six scabbard colours, and free engraving all included.

Note: The Shadow Spear is an original Everest Forge fantasy-tactical design. It is not a licensed replica of any film, game, or franchise.

Real Forged Steel, Not a Stainless Prop

Most fantasy and tactical spears on the market are stainless steel — cast or stamped, then coated, and built to look the part rather than do anything. The Shadow Spear is the opposite. It is forged the same way as our working blades: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken through the iron handle.

That means the dark looks are backed by real capability. The long, narrow blade is a dedicated thrusting and piercing profile with serious reach on its 28-inch handle, and the leather-wrapped iron grip gives weight and control behind every move. It handles real use — thrusting and reach practice, tactical drills, bushcraft and camp tasks, and outdoor work — as well as it commands a display wall. If you want the look of a fantasy weapon but refuse to settle for a hollow prop, this is the difference.

The Shadow Spear — A Dark Fantasy Blade

The name comes from the blade. A long slot is cut straight through the centre, so light passes through the heart of the spear and the steel reads as a dark, open silhouette — the skeletonized cut-out both sheds weight and gives the whole piece its aggressive, modern, tactical character. It is a deliberately contemporary design — not a historical reproduction — that draws on the look of fantasy and game weapons while staying grounded in real forged steel and honest construction.

Paired with the forged ring pommel and the long leather-wrapped iron handle, the result reads like a weapon out of a dark fantasy or a near-future tactical world. It is the kind of piece that anchors a themed collection, completes a striking cosplay or character build, or simply stops people in their tracks on the wall. As an original Everest Forge design, it is yours to personalise, not a copy of someone else's prop.

Why Collectors, Cosplayers & Outdoorsmen Choose This Spear

It is real forged steel, not a stainless prop. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — genuine weight, genuine edge, genuine capability behind the fantasy looks.

The skeletonized blade is a true standout. The cut-through centre lightens the spear for faster handling and gives it a dark, aggressive silhouette that photographs and displays like nothing generic.

Total customisation is included, not upsold. Six blade lengths, four finishes, six handle-wrap colours, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.

It arrives complete. Forged blade, leather-wrapped iron handle with ring pommel, and a fitted leather scabbard — ready to display, carry, or use out of the box.

It is built to last. Water-tempered 5160 and full-tang construction mean a spear you can rely on and hand down, not one that fails the first time it is pushed.

How It's Made

01

Steel Selection

We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.

02

Hand Forging

The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the long narrow blade and aligning the grain for strength.

03

Heat Treatment

The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.

04

Hand Finishing

The centre slot is cut and cleaned by hand, the iron handle is leather-wrapped and fitted, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance

After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).

Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.

Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil. Pay attention to the edges of the cut-out centre, where a little oil on a cloth keeps the exposed steel protected.

Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.

Handle care: Condition the leather wrap occasionally with leather conditioner or saddle soap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a real forged spear or a stainless fantasy prop?

It is a real, fully hand-forged spear in 5160 high-carbon steel — water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened. Most fantasy and tactical spears on the market are cast or stamped stainless steel built only to look the part. The Shadow Spear has genuine weight, a functional edge, and real capability behind its dark looks.

What is the cut-out down the centre of the blade?

That is the skeletonized centre — a long slot cut clean through the blade by hand. It is a real structural feature, not a painted panel: it reduces the blade's weight for faster, more controlled handling and gives the Shadow Spear its open, aggressive silhouette. The surrounding edges remain full-thickness forged 5160 steel, so strength is kept where it matters.

Is it functional, or just for display?

It is fully functional. The full-tang, water-tempered 5160 construction and sharpened blade are built for real use — thrusting and reach practice, tactical drills, bushcraft, and hard handling — as well as display. It is a working spear first, not a wall-hanger.

Is the Shadow Spear based on a movie or game?

No. It is an original Everest Forge fantasy-tactical design. It draws on the dark, modern look of fantasy and game weapons in general, but it is not a licensed replica of any specific film, game, or franchise, and we make no claim to reproduce any on-screen prop.

How customisable is it?

Very. You can choose from six blade lengths (10 to 20 inches), four blade finishes, six handle-wrap leather colours, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price, so you are configuring a one-of-a-kind piece.

What steel is it made from, and is it durable?

It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction runs the steel solidly through the iron handle for genuine battle-ready strength.

Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?

It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.

Does it come on a full-length pole or shaft?

No. This is a 43-inch long-reach hand spear with a 28-inch leather-wrapped iron handle, not a full pole arm. That keeps it easy to handle, carry, display, and ship. If you need a longer mounted shaft or a full pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.

Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?

This is live steel, intended for real functional use, display, collection, and cosplay or reenactment posing rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.

Can I have runes, my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?

Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, runes, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, sigil, symbol, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a character build or create a unique gift.

How long does it take to make and ship?

Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.

What is your return and warranty policy?

Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations such as custom length, finish, handle-wrap colour, or engraving are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
