Sentinel Spear — Hand-Forged Tactical Spear with Striking Pommel
The Everest Forge Sentinel Spear is a hand-forged tactical spear built to do more than one job. The long, narrow double-edged blade runs to a fine piercing point, with a ground fuller and a cut-through slot that trim weight and sharpen its profile. What sets it apart is the back end: a solid brass-collared striking pommel — a flat steel butt you can actually hammer with, for driving stakes, breaking, or any field task where you need a hard surface. It rides on a slim, pinned rosewood handle and comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to pommel, it is a real working tool, not a wall-hanger.
That combination — a piercing tactical blade up front and a striking pommel at the back — is what makes the Sentinel a true do-it-all field spear. It is built for tactical and outdoor users who want one tool that thrusts, cuts, and hammers, and for collectors who appreciate a clean, purposeful, hand-forged design. Like the rest of our work, it is forged to your spec — choose your blade length, finish, handle wood, and scabbard colour, with free engraving, all included.
Honest note: This is a 25-inch short hand spear, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. It is built for thrusting, field use, the striking pommel, and display. If you want a full-length pole version, we forge those as a custom build.

A Real Tactical Working Spear
This is forged the same way as our working blades: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken from the point all the way to the striking pommel. The long, narrow blade is a dedicated piercing profile that thrusts deep and cuts on both edges, while the ground fuller and cut-through slot trim weight to keep it fast and balanced in the hand.
The compact 25-inch length makes it easy to carry and control, and the full-tang build takes real abuse — thrusting and close-range work, bushcraft and camp tasks, field utility, and serious handling. This is a spear meant to be used, not just admired, while still being clean enough to display.
The Striking Pommel — A Spear That Does More
The Sentinel's defining feature is the solid striking pommel at the butt of the handle, set behind a brass collar. Because the spear is full-tang, that pommel is a hard, anchored steel surface you can actually hammer with — driving tent stakes, tapping in wedges, breaking, or any field job where you would otherwise reach for a separate striking tool. It turns the back end of the spear into a second working surface.
Paired with the piercing blade up front, it makes the Sentinel a genuine do-it-all field and tactical spear: one hand-forged tool that thrusts, cuts, and strikes. It is an original Everest Forge design — clean, purposeful, and built around real use rather than decoration.
Why Tactical Users & Collectors Choose This Spear
It is real forged steel, built to work. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — genuine weight, a real edge, and the toughness for hard field use.
The striking pommel adds real utility. A solid, full-tang-anchored steel butt you can hammer with — a feature you will not find on a typical display spear.
The piercing blade is purpose-built. A long, narrow double-edged profile with a fuller and cut-through slot — fast, balanced, and made to thrust.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Blade length, four finishes, two handle woods, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.
It arrives complete. Forged blade, pinned rosewood handle with striking pommel, and a fitted leather scabbard — ready to use or display out of the box.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the narrow piercing blade and aligning the grain for strength.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Hand Finishing
The fuller and slot are cut, your finish is applied, the rosewood handle and brass-collared striking pommel are fitted, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle & pommel care: Treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil, and buff the brass collar with metal polish. After heavy use of the striking pommel, check the handle and pins for any wear.

What is the striking pommel for?
The Sentinel has a solid steel striking pommel behind a brass collar at the butt of the handle. Because the spear is full-tang, that pommel is a hard, anchored surface you can hammer with — for driving tent stakes, tapping wedges, breaking, or other field tasks. It turns the back of the spear into a useful second working surface, which is what sets the Sentinel apart from an ordinary display spear.
Is this a real, functional spear?
Yes. It is individually hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — a genuine working tactical spear, not a cast or stainless display replica. It is built to thrust, cut, and take hard field use.
What is the detailing on the blade — the groove and the slot?
The blade carries a ground fuller (a shallow groove in the solid steel) and a cut-through slot. Both trim a little weight to keep the long blade fast and balanced, and they give it its distinctive tactical profile. The surrounding steel stays full and strong, so the blade keeps its strength where it matters.
Is it a full-length pole spear?
No. This is a 25-inch short hand spear with a 16-inch handle, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. The compact size is what makes it easy to carry, handle, store, and ship. If you want a full-length pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
How is this different from your other spears?
The Sentinel is the tactical, do-it-all spear, defined by its narrow piercing blade and its striking hammer pommel. The Boar Spear is a broad hunting spear, the Javelin Spear is built for throwing, and the Shadow and Phantom Spears are fantasy-styled. Choose the Sentinel if you want one functional tool that thrusts, cuts, and hammers.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose your blade length (9-inch standard, with 10-inch, 12-inch, and 14-inch options), four blade finishes, two handle woods, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction runs the steel solidly from the point through to the striking pommel for genuine working strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, field utility, display, and collection rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, monogram, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a kit piece or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
What is your return and warranty policy?
Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations such as custom length, finish, handle wood, or engraving are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
