Hand-Forged Spears — Hunting, Viking, Greek & Custom Spears from Nepal
The spear is humanity's oldest purpose-built weapon — predating the sword, the axe, and the bow by thousands of years. Every civilisation that ever existed developed its own version of the spear, shaped by the terrain, the prey, the enemy, and the materials available. From the 9-foot dory of the Greek hoplite to the leaf-bladed hunting spears of African warriors and the battle-ready throwing spears of Norse Vikings — the spear has never stopped evolving.
At Everest Forge, every spear is individually hand-forged in Nepal by skilled blacksmiths using 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel — the same material trusted for its toughness and edge retention across our entire blade range. Full tang construction, water-tempered edge, rosewood or leather-wrapped handle, leather scabbard included. Real forged spears built for real use — hunting, collection, reenactment, bushcraft, and display.

Our Spear Collection — Every Type, Every Purpose
Hunting Spears
Hand-forged hunting spears built for real outdoor use — broad leaf-shaped blades, full tang construction, and handles designed for a secure grip under hunting conditions. Available in compact 8-inch blade versions for close-range use and longer 13-inch blade versions for distance and power. Every hunting spear is forged from 5160 steel and water-tempered for a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that will not snap under impact.
Best for: Hunting, bushcraft, survival, outdoor collection
Viking Spears
Norse-inspired throwing and combat spears forged to historical specifications. The Viking spear was the primary weapon of the Norse warrior — not the axe, not the sword. Longer reach, greater versatility in formation fighting, and the ability to throw at distance before closing for hand-to-hand combat. Our Viking spears honour that heritage with hand-forged blades, authentic proportions, and leather-wrapped handles built for two-handed use.
Best for: Historical reenactment, Viking collection, display, combat training
Greek Spears — Achilles & Gladius
The dory-inspired Greek spear — the weapon that defined the Macedonian phalanx and carried Greek hoplites through centuries of warfare. Our Achilles Spear pays tribute to the legendary warriors of ancient Greece with a 12-inch hand-forged blade, full tang rosewood handle, and battle-ready construction. The Gladius Spear extends this tradition with a longer 17-inch blade for maximum reach and thrusting power.
Best for: Greek history collectors, reenactment, display
Leaf Spears
The leaf spear is one of the most ancient and universally recognised spear designs — a broad, leaf-shaped blade with wide wings that deliver powerful thrust and deep penetration. Inspired by ancient designs found across cultures from Celtic Europe to African tribal traditions, the leaf spear's aerodynamic balance makes it equally effective as a throwing spear and a thrusting weapon. Our leaf spears are hand-forged with leather-wrapped rosewood handles and full tang construction.
Best for: Throwing, hunting, historical collection, display
Throwing Spears
Optimised for distance and accuracy — lighter blade profiles, balanced weight distribution, and handles designed for a clean release. Our throwing spears are forged from 5160 steel for the strength to survive repeated impact, with full tang construction that keeps the blade secure through hard use. Available in multiple lengths for different throwing styles and distances.
Best for: Sport throwing, hunting practice, outdoor training
Custom Spears
Any design, any size, any specification. Historical replicas, fantasy designs, movie-inspired builds, hunting spears for specific game, or original concepts forged from scratch. Why Choose a Hand-Forged Spear Over a Factory-Made One
The difference between a hand-forged spear and a factory-made one is not just aesthetic — it is structural. A factory-made spear head is typically stamped or cast from lower-grade steel, then ground to shape. The metal is never worked under heat and hammer in the way that forging creates. The result is a blade that looks like a spear but lacks the internal grain structure that gives a forged blade its toughness.
A hand-forged spear starts as a bar of 5160 high-carbon steel. Our blacksmiths heat it to working temperature and hammer it into shape — a process that aligns the grain structure of the steel along the blade profile, creating a blade that is simultaneously harder at the edge and tougher throughout the body. Water tempering then sets the hardness differential — a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine. This is why forged blades survive conditions that factory blades fail under.
Every Everest Forge spear is forged individually. No two are identical — each one carries the marks of the individual blacksmith who made it.
How to Choose the Right Spear
For hunting use: Choose a broad-bladed hunting spear or leaf spear with a blade length matched to your intended game. Shorter blades (8–9 inch) for smaller game and closer range. Longer blades (12–13 inch) for larger game requiring deeper penetration. Full tang construction is essential for any blade that will see real hunting use.
For throwing: Choose a lighter spear with a narrower blade profile and balanced weight distribution. The Viking Throwing Spear and Leaf Spear are our most popular throwing choices. Consider shaft length — longer shafts generate more rotational speed but require more space and practice to control.
For historical reenactment: Match the blade profile to the period and culture you are recreating. Our Achilles Spear for ancient Greek, Viking Spear for Norse, Leaf Spear for Celtic or African traditions. All are forged to historically influenced specifications.
For collection and display: Any of our spears make exceptional display pieces — the craftsmanship is visible in every blade. Consider the Achilles Spear or Norseman Spear for maximum visual impact. Custom engraving and etching available on request.

Hand-Forged Spears — Frequently Asked Questions
What steel are Everest Forge spears forged from?
Every spear is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel — the same tough, shock-resistant steel used across our full blade range. Each blade is full tang and water-tempered, giving a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs impact instead of snapping.
Are these spears battle-ready or display-only?
They are built as fully forged, functional blades rather than decorative castings — real 5160 steel, full tang, water-tempered. Customers buy them for collection, display, historical reenactment, bushcraft, and outdoor use. How any blade may be owned, carried, or used is governed by the laws of your own country and region, so please check your local regulations before ordering.
What is the difference between a hunting spear and a throwing spear?
A hunting spear uses a broader, heavier leaf-shaped blade built for deep thrusting penetration. A throwing spear uses a lighter, narrower blade with balanced weight distribution for a clean release and stable flight. Several of our models handle both roles well — the blade profile and weight on each product page tell you which way a given spear leans.
What blade lengths do you offer?
Our spear blades run from compact 5-inch harpoon-style heads up to 17-inch Greek blades, with the most popular hunting and Viking models sitting between 8 and 13 inches. Every product page lists the exact blade length and weight so you can match the spear to your intended use.
Do your spears come mounted on a full-length pole or shaft?
Each spear is supplied as a complete hand-forged blade with a finished, hand-fitted handle and a leather scabbard. Standard models are built as a forged head with a handle section rather than fixed to a long pole, which also keeps international shipping safe and affordable. If you need a specific overall length or a full mounted shaft, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
Can I order a custom spear?
Yes. Our blacksmiths forge custom spears to any design — historical replicas, hunting builds, fantasy and movie-inspired pieces, or original concepts. Any blade length, profile, handle material, and finish. Submit a custom spear request and we will quote your build.
Where are the spears made and where do you ship?
Every spear is individually hand-forged in our workshop in Tokha, Kathmandu, Nepal, then shipped worldwide with fully tracked, insured international delivery. International orders may be subject to customs duties or import taxes set by your own country's customs authority.
Can I get engraving or personalisation on a spear?
Yes — custom engraving and etching are available on request, including names, dates, symbols, or your own artwork. Add it to a custom spear request and we will confirm placement and design before forging begins.
