Hand-Forged Medieval Fantasy Longsword — Full-Tang 5160 Fullered Blade with Red Leather Grip
This is a hand-forged, fully functional medieval fantasy longsword — forged in Nepal from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, oil-quenched and tempered, full tang, and sharpened to a true edge. It carries a long straight double-edged blade in a clean satin finish with a central fuller running its length, a straight steel cross-guard, a red leather-wrapped grip over a wood core, and a polished pommel, paired with a cherry leather scabbard. Every sword is made to order in your chosen length, finish, and engraving.
The standard blade is 29 inches on a 10.5-inch handle with a 7-inch grip, for an overall length around 39.5 inches at about 1.6 kg. That long grip makes it a hand-and-a-half sword — comfortable in one hand, and long enough to take a second hand for a two-handed cut. The oil-tempered 5160 steel and full tang make it a real sword you can handle and display, not a cast wall-hanger.
An honest note. This is an original hand-forged longsword in the medieval fantasy style, built as a real, functional blade and a collector's centrepiece. We frame it as the craft object it is rather than as an instrument of harm. What we care about is the steel, the fuller, the balance, and the fit of the grip.

The longsword is the straight, double-edged, cruciform-hilted sword of late-medieval Europe, used from roughly the 14th to the 16th centuries. Its defining feature is a grip long enough for two hands — swords in this range are often called hand-and-a-half or bastard swords, because they can be used one-handed or two. The fuller, the groove running down the blade, lightens it without weakening it. This one is a modern hand-forged interpretation in 5160 spring steel, dressed with a red leather grip and a matching cherry scabbard for a clean fantasy-collector look.

What is a medieval longsword?
The longsword is the straight, double-edged, cruciform-hilted sword of late-medieval Europe, used from roughly the 14th to the 16th centuries. Its defining feature is a grip long enough for two hands. This one is a modern, hand-forged interpretation in 5160 spring steel with a satin-finished fullered blade and a red leather grip.
Is it one-handed or two-handed?
Both — it is a hand-and-a-half sword, sometimes called a bastard sword. The 7-inch grip is long enough to take a second hand for a powerful two-handed cut, while the balance still allows comfortable one-handed use. That versatility is what defines the type.
What is the fuller for?
The fuller is the groove running down the centre of the blade. It removes weight from the middle of the blade while keeping its stiffness, so the sword is lighter and better balanced without being weaker. It is worked into the blade during forging rather than stamped in afterwards.
Is this a real, functional sword?
Yes. This is a real, fully functional longsword, not a cast display piece. It is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, full tang, oil-quenched and tempered, and sharpened to a true cutting edge before it ships. It is built to be handled and cut with, and finished cleanly enough to display as a centrepiece.
What steel is it, and how is it heat-treated?
The blade is forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, the same alloy used in heavy-duty truck leaf springs, prized for toughness and edge retention. It is oil-quenched and tempered for a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible, shock-absorbent spine.
Is it full tang?
Yes. The tang runs the full length of the handle, so there is no rat-tail or glued-in tang to fail. Full-tang construction is what makes the sword strong enough to handle and cut with rather than just display.
How does it differ from your lion-head knightly sword?
They are different sword types. This longsword has a 7-inch grip for one- or two-handed use and a clean fullered blade in a red-and-cherry dress. The lion-head knightly sword is a single-handed arming sword with a shorter grip, a floral-etched blade, and a sculpted lion pommel. Choose this one for a two-handed capable longsword, the other for an ornate one-handed knightly sword.
Can I change the blade length or grip colour?
Yes. The standard blade is 29 inches, and you can order it shorter or longer. Red grip and cherry scabbard are standard, and other leather colours are available on request. You can also choose the blade finish, the edge, and add engraving.
What is the handle made of?
The handle has a wood core wrapped in red leather over a full tang, with a polished steel straight cross-guard and pommel. Each grip is wrapped by hand, so the leather grain and wrap show slight individual variation.
Does it come with a scabbard?
Yes. Every sword ships with a cherry leather scabbard that matches the grip, made by hand to fit the blade size you order. Other scabbard colours are available on request.
Will my sword look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but each piece is individually hand-forged, so small variations in finish, polish, leather colour and grain, and fitting details occur naturally. Forging marks and slight differences are part of the character of a handmade blade rather than defects.
Do you ship worldwide, and how long does it take?
Yes. We ship worldwide from Nepal by DHL or FedEx in 7 to 14 business days with tracking. In-stock specs dispatch within 2 to 3 business days; fully custom builds take roughly 4 to 6 weeks to forge first. Import and blade laws vary by country, so please check your local rules before ordering.
