Ranger Spear — Hand-Forged Hunting & Field Spear in 5160 Steel
The Everest Forge Ranger Spear is a clean, hand-forged hunting and field spear built to be carried and used. The broad leaf-point blade runs to a strong tip, dressed with neat cut grooves at the base and a decorated steel bolster where it meets the handle. The slim rosewood handle is pinned and capped with an engraved steel pommel — simple, balanced, and tough. It comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to pommel, it is a genuine working spear, not a wall-hanger.
At a light 700 grams and a handy 25 inches, the Ranger is the easy-carrying all-rounder of our spear range — fast in the hand, quick to pack, and at home on the trail, in camp, or on the wall. It is the spear for the hunter, hiker, and outdoorsman who wants a real forged blade without the weight or the price of a larger piece, and for the collector who appreciates clean, honest work. Like everything we make, it is forged to your spec — your blade length, finish, handle wood, and scabbard colour, with free engraving, all included.
Honest note: This is a 25-inch short hand spear, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. It is built for hunting, field and camp use, thrusting, and display. If you want a full-length pole version, we forge those as a custom build.

A Light, Real Working Spear
This is forged the same way as our working blades: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken through the rosewood handle. The broad leaf head gives a strong point and a real cutting edge, and at around 700 grams the whole spear stays light and lively in the hand — quick to bring on target and easy to carry all day.
That balance of light weight and real strength is the point of the Ranger. It handles the everyday jobs a field spear is actually used for — hunting where legal, thrusting and reach work, clearing and camp tasks, and general outdoor use — without the bulk of a heavy war spear. It is a genuine forged tool you can rely on, at the most accessible price in our spear range.
Built for the Trail & the Field
The Ranger is named for the way it is meant to be used — out on the trail, in the field, and in camp. The light blade and compact 25-inch length make it the easiest spear we make to carry and pack, while the decorated steel bolster and engraved pommel give it a touch of craftsmanship above a plain tool. It is an honest, good-looking, everyday forged spear rather than a specialised one.
As an original Everest Forge design, it sits as the clean all-rounder of the range: lighter and more affordable than our larger spears, without a single compromise on the steel or the forging. If you want one real, hand-forged spear to actually use and enjoy, this is the easy place to start.
Why Hunters & Outdoorsmen Choose This Spear
It is light and fast. At around 700 grams it is the lightest, quickest-handling spear in our range — easy to carry, easy to bring on target.
It is real forged steel. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — a genuine working blade, not a cast or stainless display piece.
It is the most accessible price in the range. A real hand-forged Everest Forge spear at our lowest spear price — the easy way into owning one.
It arrives complete. Forged blade, pinned rosewood handle with an engraved pommel, and a fitted leather scabbard — ready to carry or display out of the box.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Blade length, four finishes, two handle woods, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the light leaf blade and aligning the grain for strength.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Hand Finishing
The groove accents are cut, your finish is applied, the bolster and rosewood handle with its engraved pommel are fitted, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil), and wipe down the steel bolster and pommel.
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle care: Treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil to keep it from drying out.

Is this a real, functional spear?
Yes. It is individually hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — a genuine working field spear, not a cast or stainless display replica. It is light and fast, and built to take real hunting, field, and camp use.
What are the lines cut into the base of the blade?
They are decorative cut grooves at the base of the blade — fine file-work that dresses up the blade. They are not a fuller and not a cut-through opening; the blade stays full and solid. Together with the decorated bolster and engraved pommel, they give the Ranger a bit more craftsmanship than a plain spear.
How light is it, and why does that matter?
It weighs about 700 grams, which makes it the lightest spear in our range. A lighter spear is faster in the hand, less tiring to carry on the trail, and easier to pack — ideal for a hunting or field spear you actually take outdoors rather than just display.
How is this different from your Boar and Sentinel Spears?
The Ranger is the light, clean, affordable all-rounder. The Boar Spear is a heavier, broader dedicated hunting spear; the Sentinel is a tactical spear with a striking pommel. All are real hand-forged short spears — choose the Ranger if you want the lightest, easiest-carrying, best-value option.
Is it a full-length pole spear?
No. This is a 25-inch short hand spear with a 16-inch handle, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. The compact size is what makes it so light and easy to carry, store, and ship. If you want a full-length pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose your blade length (9-inch standard, with 10-inch, 12-inch, and 14-inch options), four blade finishes, two handle woods, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction keeps the blade locked solidly through the handle for genuine working strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, field use, display, and collection rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, monogram, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a field kit or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
What is your return and warranty policy?
Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations such as custom length, finish, handle wood, or engraving are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
