Hunter Spear — Hand-Forged Field Spear with Clip-Point Blade
The Everest Forge Hunter Spear is a hand-forged field spear built for the hunt, set apart by its clip-point blade. Where most spears run to a symmetrical leaf, the Hunter's blade has a long swept clip along the back edge down to the point — the aggressive, knife-like profile that gives a clean entry and a fine, controllable tip. It rides on a slim, full-tang rosewood handle with pinned scales, and comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to butt, it is a genuine working spear, not a wall-hanger.
At a handy 27 inches and a lively 985 grams, the Hunter is quick in the hand and easy to carry into the field — a real hunting spear you take outdoors rather than just hang up. It is built for hunters who want a capable, distinctive blade, outdoorsmen and bushcrafters after a tough field spear, and collectors drawn to the clip-point look. Like everything we make, it is forged to your spec — your blade length, finish, handle wood, and scabbard colour, with free engraving, all included.
Honest note: This is a 27-inch short hand spear, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. It is built for hunting, field and camp use, thrusting, and display. If you want a full-length pole version, we forge those as a custom build.

The Clip-Point Blade
The Hunter's signature is its clip-point blade. The back of the blade runs straight from the handle, then "clips" away in a long concave sweep down to the tip — the same profile prized on serious hunting knives. On a spear, that shape does two things: it brings the point lower and more in line with the thrust for a clean, accurate entry, and it keeps the tip fine and controllable while leaving a broad belly behind it for cutting.
It is a deliberately hunting-focused blade rather than a symmetrical war-spear leaf. Paired with the light 985-gram weight and the compact 27-inch length, it makes the Hunter quick to bring on target and easy to handle in close — exactly what you want from a field and hunting spear, in real forged steel rather than a stamped or cast lookalike.
A Real Field Spear
Under the blade shape, the Hunter is forged the same way as all our working spears: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang with pinned rosewood scales for a solid, reliable, knife-grade build. There is no hidden joint and no shortcut — just one solid piece of proven steel from point to butt.
That makes it a genuine working spear you can take into the field and trust — for hunting where legal, thrusting and reach work, bushcraft and camp tasks, and hard outdoor handling — while still being handsome enough to display. It is a real hunting tool first, and a good-looking one second.
Why Hunters & Outdoorsmen Choose This Spear
The clip-point blade is purpose-built. A swept back edge brings the point in line for a clean entry, with a broad belly behind it for cutting — a true hunting profile.
It is light and fast. At about 985 grams and 27 inches, it is quick in the hand and easy to carry into the field all day.
It is real forged steel. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — a genuine working spear, not a cast or stainless display piece.
It is knife-built and tough. A full tang with pinned rosewood scales gives a strong, reliable handle with no hidden joints.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Blade length, four finishes, two handle woods, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the clip-point blade and aligning the grain for strength.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Hand Finishing
Your chosen finish is applied, the rosewood scales are pinned to the full tang, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle care: Treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil to keep it from drying out.

What is a clip-point blade, and why use it on a spear?
A clip-point blade has its back edge "clipped" away in a concave sweep toward the tip, the profile you see on classic hunting knives. On the Hunter Spear it brings the point lower and in line with the thrust for a clean, accurate entry, while keeping a broad cutting belly behind the tip. It is a deliberately hunting-focused shape rather than a symmetrical war-spear leaf.
Is this a real, functional spear?
Yes. It is individually hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — a genuine working field spear, not a cast or stainless display replica. It is light, fast, and built to take real hunting and field use.
How is this different from your Ranger and Boar Spears?
The Hunter is defined by its clip-point hunting blade. The Ranger Spear is the light all-rounder with a symmetrical leaf blade, and the Boar Spear is a broad, compact dedicated boar spear. All are real hand-forged short spears — choose the Hunter if you want the distinctive clip-point hunting profile.
Does the blade have a fuller or cut-out?
No. It is a clean, solid clip-point blade — no fuller groove and no cut-through opening. The character comes from the clip-point shape and the full thickness of the steel, not from added detailing.
Is it a full-length pole spear?
No. This is a 27-inch short hand spear with a 17-inch handle, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. The compact size is what makes it light and easy to carry, store, and ship. If you want a full-length pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose your blade length (10-inch standard, with 12-inch and 14-inch options), four blade finishes, two handle woods, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction with pinned scales keeps the blade locked solidly through the handle for genuine working strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, hunting, field use, display, and collection rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, monogram, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a field kit or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
What is your return and warranty policy?
Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations such as custom length, finish, handle wood, or engraving are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
