The Sword of the Hundred-Man Slayer — Guts' Golden Age Greatsword as the Manga Draws It, Hand-Forged in 5160 Spring Steel
This is the greatsword Guts holds a forest road with against a hundred Tudor soldiers: the manga pattern of his Golden Age blade, forged as a real steel slab. Deep fuller running the length of the blade, a steady taper to the point, the big block guard studded with six rivets a face, a long dark leather grip and the heavy faceted pommel — hand-forged to order in Kathmandu in your choice of blade length, finish, wrap, fittings and scabbard.
Not an official or licensed Berserk product. This is an independent, hand-forged interpretation of the sword as drawn in the Berserk manga. Berserk, Guts and the Band of the Hawk belong to Kentaro Miura, Studio Gaga and Hakusensha; Everest Forge is not affiliated with any of them, and nothing on this page should be read as a claim otherwise.
Underneath every option is the same sword: a 36-inch blade in hand-forged 5160 spring steel at around 14 mm on the spine — roughly twice the stock of our longswords — with a forged fuller down both faces, on a full riveted tang under a 16-inch grip, at approximately 52 inches overall and 8.5 kg in the hand. Broader, longer in the hilt and heavier than the anime-pattern Raider sword, because that is how Miura drew it.
From the Same Forge

Reference photographs of our anime-pattern Golden Age sword from the same forge in Kathmandu, shown for size, finish and build quality; the manga pattern on this page carries the fullered tapering blade, block guard and faceted pommel of the render above. Every order is photographed on the scale before it ships.

Left-handed? Write Left Handed in the order note and the forge builds the grip and scabbard for it. For a blunt edge, a thinner-stock version or anything outside the list, use the order note or our custom forge service.
Why “Hundred-Man Slayer”
It is not the sword's name; it is Guts'. In the Golden Age arc, after he and Casca go over a cliff and are hunted through the forest, Guts stands on a road with this sword and takes on something like a hundred of Adon's men alone, and comes out the other side. The Band of the Hawk never quite look at him the same way again, and the title sticks. The sword he does it with is the same Golden Age greatsword he has carried since Bazuso — worn down by that fight, it finally breaks against Boscogn at Doldrey — but the manga draws it very differently from the anime: a blade that tapers from a wide base to a true point, a deep fuller the full length of each face, a thick block guard carrying six rivets on each side, a long dark grip and a heavy faceted pommel to balance it all. Collectors call that drawing the Hundred-Man Slayer sword, and so do we.
Manga Pattern or Anime Pattern?
We make both drawings of this sword. This listing is the manga pattern: the tapering fullered blade, the twelve-rivet block guard, the dark wrap, the faceted pommel. The anime pattern — a near-parallel blade with a shallow channel, a thin twin-plate guard, a white wrap and a square block pommel, the one the replica market calls the Raider sword — is the Hand-Forged Guts Raider Greatsword. Same steel, same forge, same five lengths. The post-Eclipse slab is its own listing, the Hand-Forged Dragon Slayer Greatsword.
Built as Steel, Not as a Shape
This blade is forged from 5160 leaf-spring stock at around 14 mm on the spine. The fuller is forged in with a fullering tool and cleaned up by hand, not milled; it takes weight out of the centre of a very thick blade and leaves the spine and edges full. The edge bevels are ground by hand and the blade tapers in width from the guard to the point, so the mass sits further back toward the hilt than on the parallel-sided Raider. The tang runs the full 16-inch grip and is riveted through the wooden scales. The guard is a forged steel block, slotted over the blade and riveted; the pommel is a forged faceted lump of steel that does real work balancing a blade this long. Nothing is cast, nothing is welded on.
The consequence is weight. At the standard 36-inch blade this sword is around 8.5 kg bare and 9.5 kg in its scabbard; the 45-inch build is nearly 14 kg. A genuine fighting two-hander with a 45-inch blade weighs under 3 kg. We say it plainly: this is a display and collector's sword at manga proportions, not a cutting sword, and we do not sell it as one.
Blade Length and Approximate Weight
Weights are forge estimates from the blade geometry. Every sword is weighed and photographed on the scale before it ships, and the photograph comes to you.
Which Blade Finish Suits the Manga Sword?
Handle, Fittings and Scabbard
The grip is wooden scales on the full tang under a leather wrap, 16 inches at the standard build — long enough for two hands with room to spare, the way the manga draws it. Brown is the dark grip of the page and the one most buyers choose; black is close behind; white makes it read like the anime sword, and red, blue and green are there for the collector who wants it to be theirs. The fittings cover the block guard and the faceted pommel, so the choice changes the whole hilt: silver-iron is bare forged steel and the manga look; black makes the guard recede against a bright blade; brass and copper warm it. The scabbard is leather over a wooden core shaped to the taper, with carrying straps, in six colours; on the 40 and 45-inch builds it is reinforced across the grain so the long core does not split.
Engraving
The personalisation field takes a name, initials, a date, a dedication or a short line, cut into the ricasso beside the fuller. You can also upload a crest, a unit badge, a logo or a photograph and we reproduce it. We do not engrave third-party trademarks or copyrighted artwork; your own design, yes.
Want It Lighter, Blunt, or Bigger Still?
A thinner-stock collector's version at our normal longsword gauge, a blunt stage edge, a blade past 45 inches, a different grip length, or a Guts sword from your own reference panels — anything outside the option list is quoted individually through our custom forge service.

Standard Build Specification
Because every piece is hand-forged, small variation in weight, dimensions, grain and finish is normal; width, spine and grip scale with the blade length you choose.
An Honest Note on This Sword
An honest note. Three things worth saying plainly. First, this is the heaviest of the two Golden Age patterns, on purpose: wider at the base, longer in the grip, with a block guard and pommel that together weigh more than a kilogram. A slab this thick is edge-hardened and tempered rather than hardened through, it is not balanced for cutting, and nobody should swing a 14 kg sword at anything; if you want one you can cut with, ask for the thin-stock version through the order note. Second, it is an interpretation of a drawing. Berserk never gives this sword dimensions, and the manga is not consistent panel to panel, so the widths and grip length are ours. Third, 5160 is not stainless, and a fuller is a channel that holds moisture; wipe it, oil it along the fuller, and store it out of the leather.
This Build Suits
- Berserk readers who want the sword as Miura drew it, fuller and block guard and all
- Collectors who already have a Dragon Slayer and want the Golden Age sword beside it
- Display in a room, a studio or a shop, where a forged, fullered slab reads very differently from stainless sheet
- Cosplay and photography where real steel weight and finish matter more than carry time

How Your Order Is Made
Caring for a Big Fullered Slab of Carbon Steel
Wipe the blade down after handling and keep a light film of oil on both faces; the fuller holds moisture longer than a flat, so run an oiled cloth along it on both sides. Do not store the sword in its scabbard for long periods — the leather holds damp against the steel — and if it lives on a wall or a stand, oil it every few weeks in a humid climate. The rivet heads on the guard collect dust and damp; a dry brush and a wipe of oil now and then keeps them clean. If you have it sharpened, keep the edge at the angle it came with. Brass and copper fittings patina with handling and polish back with any metal polish.
Shipping, Returns and Warranty
A greatsword at this size ships in a long crate, and shipping adds seven to ten days after the forge is done. Orders to the USA and Canada travel with FedEx; everywhere else ships on a DDP service, which means duties and taxes are settled before the parcel moves so there is nothing to pay on delivery. Every piece carries the Everest Forge manufacturer warranty against defects in forging and heat treatment. Because a configured and engraved sword is made to your specification, it falls outside our standard returns window except where the blade is faulty — full terms are on our shipping and returns page. Import rules on large edged blades vary by country and are the buyer's responsibility to check before ordering.
The Guts Sword Collection
Questions About the Hundred-Man Slayer Greatsword
Is the Hundred-Man Slayer a different sword from the Raider sword?
In the story, no: it is the same Golden Age greatsword Guts carries from Bazuso to Doldrey. On the page, yes: the manga draws it with a tapering fullered blade, a twelve-rivet block guard and a faceted pommel, and the anime draws it with a parallel channelled blade, a thin plate guard and a block pommel. We make each drawing as its own sword. This page is the manga drawing; the Raider Greatsword is the anime drawing.
Why is it called the Hundred-Man Slayer?
Because of the fight. After Guts and Casca go over the cliff in the Golden Age arc, Guts holds a forest road alone against roughly a hundred of Adon's Tudor soldiers with this sword, and survives. "Hundred-Man Slayer" is the title he earns for it, and collectors have attached it to the manga drawing of the sword he did it with. In Berserk itself the sword has no name.
Is this the Dragon Slayer?
No. The Dragon Slayer is the slab Godot forged for a king, which Guts takes up after the Eclipse. This is the greatsword he carries before it. The Dragon Slayer is its own listing, the Hand-Forged Dragon Slayer Greatsword.
How heavy is it, really?
About 8.5 kg bare at the standard 36-inch blade, 9.5 kg in the scabbard, and nearly 14 kg bare at 45 inches. It is heavier than the Raider pattern at every length because it is wider at the base, longer in the grip, and carries a block guard and pommel that together weigh over a kilogram. Those are forge estimates; every sword is weighed and photographed on the scale before it ships. A real two-hander with a 45-inch blade weighs under 3 kg.
What does the fuller do?
It takes steel out of the centre of a very thick blade and leaves the spine and edges full, so the blade is lighter and stiffer than a plain slab of the same thickness. On this sword it is forged in with a fullering tool while the steel is hot, then cleaned by hand. It is not a blood groove and never was; it is the same engineering as an I-beam.
Can I cut with it?
It is not sold for cutting or sparring, and we would not recommend swinging an 8 to 14 kg sword at anything. A slab this thick is edge-hardened and tempered rather than hardened through, and it is not balanced for use. If you want a Guts sword you can cut with, ask in the order note for the thin-stock version at our normal longsword gauge; it is quoted individually.
Which blade length should I choose?
The 36-inch standard build is around 52 inches overall and 8.5 kg: big enough to read as the manga sword on a wall, still manageable to move. The 45-inch blade is the full proportion, nearly five and a half feet overall and close to 14 kg, for the collector with the space and the floor for it. The 28 and 30 are for smaller rooms and costume use.
Is it sharp?
Yes, by default: the edge bevels are ground and sharpened. Write "blunt" in the order note if you want a rounded display or stage edge.
Can I order it left-handed?
Yes. Write "Left Handed" in the order note and the forge builds the grip wrap and the scabbard hang for a left-hand carry.
Which finish and fittings look most like the manga?
Satin blade, silver-iron fittings and the brown wrap: bare steel, bare rivets, dark grip. Acid wash gives it the look of the sword after the hundred-man fight, and black coated with a bright edge is the dramatic choice for a lit display.
Can I have the Brand of Sacrifice or Berserk artwork engraved?
No. We engrave your own name, initials, dates, text, crest, logo or photograph, but not third-party trademarks or copyrighted artwork, and that includes Berserk symbols and character art. The sword itself is an independent interpretation and is not an official product.
Will 5160 steel rust?
Yes, if you let it. 5160 is a carbon spring steel, chosen because it absorbs shock instead of chipping, and it needs a film of oil and a dry place to live. Wipe it after handling, oil both faces along the fuller, and do not leave it in the leather scabbard for months. Black coated is the most forgiving finish for a humid room.
How long does it take?
Longer than our standard blades. Allow two to three weeks at the forge for a sword this size, then seven to ten days in transit. We send progress photographs while it is forged and a photograph of the finished sword on the scale before dispatch.
Can you make it bigger, or from my own reference panels?
Blades past 45 inches, a different grip length, the anime guard on this blade or a sword built from your own scans are all quoted individually through our custom forge service. Tell us the length and we will tell you honestly what it will weigh.
