Warden Spear — Hand-Forged Broadhead War Spear in 5160 Steel
The Everest Forge Warden Spear is a classic hand-forged war spear with a broad, clean leaf blade. There is no gimmick here — just a wide, deeply-bellied broadhead drawn to a strong point, the timeless shape that armed hunters and warriors for thousands of years, done properly in real steel. It rides on a long, pinned rosewood handle and comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to butt, it is honest, battle-ready steel with nothing to prove and nothing to hide.
This is the spear for someone who wants the definitive broad spear — the one that looks right on a wall and works in the hand. The wide blade cuts as well as it thrusts, the 33-inch length gives real reach, and the whole piece is balanced for control. It is built for collectors who want a classic, hunters and outdoorsmen who want a capable broadhead, and reenactors after an honest war spear. Like everything we make, it is forged to your spec — your blade length, finish, handle wood, and scabbard colour, with free engraving, all included.
Honest note: This is a 33-inch hand spear, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. It is built for thrusting, hunting, field use, and display. If you want a full-length pole version, we forge those as a custom build.

The Classic Broadhead
The broad leaf spearhead is the original and the definitive spear shape — wide enough to open a deep wound and cut on the draw, heavy enough at the point to drive a thrust home, and balanced enough to throw or carry all day. It armed everyone from prehistoric hunters to the warriors of the ancient world, and it endured for one simple reason: it works. The Warden Spear is that classic done right, with no modern gimmick to distract from the shape itself.
This is the broad spear at its most honest. The wide blade and 33-inch length give it both cutting power and reach, and the clean lines make it as much a centrepiece on the wall as a tool in the field. If you want one spear that captures the timeless idea of the weapon, this is it.
A Real Forged War Spear
Under the classic looks, the Warden is forged the same way as all our working blades: a bar of 5160 spring steel hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken through the rosewood handle. There is no weld, no casting, no shortcut — just one solid piece of proven steel.
That makes it a genuine working spear, not a decorative replica. The broad blade takes and holds a real edge, the full-tang build stands up to hard thrusting and field use, and the balance makes it controllable in the hand. It is the kind of spear you can hang on the wall with pride and still trust if you ever take it down to use.
Why Collectors & Outdoorsmen Choose This Spear
It is the definitive broad spear. A wide, classic leaf blade with the timeless shape that defined the weapon — no gimmick, just the real thing.
It is genuine forged steel. Full-tang 5160 spring steel, water-tempered and sharpened — a real working war spear, not a cast or stainless display piece.
It cuts and thrusts. The broad blade opens a deep wound and drives a strong thrust, with the reach of its 33-inch length behind it.
It is proven. One of our best-reviewed spears, with verified five-star reviews from real buyers.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Blade length, four finishes, two handle woods, six scabbard colours, and free engraving — all part of the standard build.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, drawing out the broad classic leaf blade and aligning the grain for strength.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Hand Finishing
Your chosen finish is applied, the rosewood handle is fitted and pinned, and a leather scabbard is stitched to match.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle care: Treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil to keep it from drying out.

What is a broadhead war spear?
It is the classic, original spear shape — a broad, wide leaf blade that cuts as well as it thrusts, on a long handle. The Warden is that timeless design done in real forged steel, with no modern gimmick like a cut-out or special pommel. It is the definitive broad spear, built to look right and work right.
Is this a real, functional spear?
Yes. It is individually hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened — a genuine working war spear, not a cast or stainless display replica. The broad blade takes a real edge and the full-tang build stands up to hard use.
How is this different from your Boar and Sword Spears?
The Warden is the classic, full-size broad war spear — wide blade, long handle, no gimmick. The Boar Spear is a compact short hunting spear, and the Sword Spear is a gladius-style blade on a handle. Choose the Warden if you want the definitive, timeless broad spear shape.
Does the broad blade have a fuller or cut-out?
No. It is a clean, solid broad leaf blade — no fuller groove and no cut-through opening. The strength and the look both come from the classic shape and the full thickness of the steel, not from added detailing.
Is it a full-length pole spear?
No. This is a 33-inch hand spear with a 20-inch handle, not a six-foot pole spear on a full shaft. The compact size keeps it easy to handle, store, and ship. If you want a full-length pole version, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
How customisable is it?
Highly. You can choose your blade length (13-inch standard, with 10-inch, 12-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch options), four blade finishes, two handle woods, and six scabbard colours, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge over a springy spine, and the full-tang construction keeps the blade locked solidly through the handle for genuine battle-ready strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
It ships hand-sharpened and ready to use. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer for a home or office display, note it in your order or message us before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, intended for real functional use, display, collection, and reenactment posing rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
Can I have my name, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, or short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, monogram, or artwork for custom photo and logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a piece or create a unique gift.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3 to 5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5 to 10 business days in transit, roughly 8 to 15 business days from order to delivery.
What is your return and warranty policy?
Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations such as custom length, finish, handle wood, or engraving are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
