The Everest Forge Spartan Spear is a hand-forged tribute to the dory — the spear of the ancient Greek hoplite, and the true weapon of Sparta. The broad, sculpted leaf blade sweeps from a wide cutting belly to a long thrusting point, set off with small drilled accents near the base and a clean steel bolster. It rides on a slim, pinned rosewood handle capped with a polished brass ball pommel, echoing the brass butt-fittings the Greeks wore on their war spears, and comes complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard. Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from point to pommel, it is genuine, battle-ready steel.

To the Greeks, the spear mattered more than the sword. The hoplite who held the line at Thermopylae and Marathon did it with a dory in his hand, and a fine spear was a mark of a warrior's standing. The Spartan Spear is neither. It arrives as a complete, finished piece — a forged and sharpened 5160 blade, a pinned rosewood handle, a brass ball pommel, and a fitted leather scabbard — ready to display or handle out of the box.

And it is forged, not cast or stamped. The blade is hammered to shape by hand, water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy, and full-tang so the steel runs unbroken from the point through to the brass pommel. Care & Maintenance

After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil), and wipe down the brass pommel.

Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.

Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.

Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.

Brass & handle care: Buff the brass pommel with metal polish to keep its shine, and treat the rosewood occasionally with a little wood oil.
