Achilles Spear — Hand-Forged Fantasy & Medieval Greek Warrior Spear
The Everest Forge Achilles Spear is a hand-forged fantasy and medieval warrior spear that is built to be wielded, not just admired. The broad, winged leaf-shaped blade carries a dark blued centre flanked by bright mirror bevels, set on a leather-wrapped solid-metal handle ringed with polished collar bands and capped with a metal pommel. It ships complete with a hand-stitched leather scabbard and belt frog. It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs, water-tempered, and full-tang from tip to pommel — a real, functional, battle-ready spear.
That dual nature is the whole point. Most fantasy and medieval spears are either foam costume props or bare spearheads you have to mount yourself. This one looks like a museum centrepiece and performs like a field weapon: striking enough for a Greek-hero cosplay, a medieval costume, a ren-faire kit, or a collector's wall, yet genuinely capable of thrusting, throwing practice, bushcraft, and hunting tasks. Named for Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Trojan War, it is forged to your exact specification — finish, blade length, handle, scabbard colour, and free engraving all included.
Note: This is an original Everest Forge interpretation inspired by the warriors and legends of ancient Greece. It is not a licensed replica of any film, game, or franchise.

A Functional Warrior Spear, Built for Real Use
This is not a wall-hanger pretending to be a weapon. The Achilles Spear is forged the same way as our working blades: a bar of 5160 high-carbon spring steel, hammered to shape by hand, then water-tempered so the edge runs hard while the spine stays springy. The full-tang construction means the steel runs unbroken from the blade tip through the entire length of the handle — there is no weak weld or pinned joint to fail under impact.
In practical terms, that makes it a genuinely capable spear. The broad winged leaf blade is a thrusting and cutting profile that bites deep, and at 650 grams it is balanced for control rather than dead weight. It handles real tasks — thrusting drills, throwing practice, bushcraft and camp work, and hunting use where a short spear is legal and appropriate. The 22-inch handle gives a secure two-hand or choked grip, and the included leather scabbard with belt frog means you can carry it safely in the field, not just hang it on a hook.
So whether you want a striking fantasy piece that also happens to be real steel, or a functional medieval-style war spear that also happens to look incredible, this single spear does both — and you tune which way it leans with the finish and edge you choose.
The Spear of Achilles — The Legend Behind the Blade
In Homer's Iliad, Achilles was the greatest warrior of the Greek army at Troy, and his weapon was as famous as the man. He carried the great ash spear cut from Mount Pelion — a weapon so heavy and perfectly balanced that, in the legend, no other Greek could wield it. The spear, not the sword, was the defining weapon of the Greek hero and the medieval warrior alike: it struck first, struck from distance, and decided fights before swords were ever drawn.
Our Achilles Spear takes its spirit from that legend rather than copying a single artefact. The broad winged leaf blade echoes the heavy thrusting heads of the heroic age, while the leather-wrapped metal handle gives it the balance and grip of a weapon meant to be held. It is a tribute to the warrior whose name has meant courage and skill for nearly three thousand years — and a centrepiece that carries that story into any fantasy or medieval collection.
Why Collectors, Cosplayers & Outdoorsmen Choose This Spear
It is real forged steel, not foam. Most fantasy and medieval spears are foam, latex, or resin. This is a genuine hand-forged 5160 steel blade with real weight, a full tang, and a functional edge — it looks the part in photos and performs in the field because it is the real thing.
It is complete, not a kit. Competitors sell bare spearheads with "shaft not included." This arrives as a finished spear — forged blade, fitted leather-wrapped handle, and a hand-stitched leather scabbard with belt frog. Nothing to mount, nothing to source.
Total customisation is included, not upsold. Finish, blade length, handle material, scabbard colour, and engraving are all part of the standard build. You are configuring a one-of-a-kind piece, not buying off a shelf.
It photographs and displays beautifully. Choose a mirror finish for gleaming hero shots, a raw forge finish for grit and texture, or a blacked finish for a dark fantasy look. The winged blade and ringed handle make it a true centrepiece.
It is built to last. Water-tempered 5160 and full-tang construction mean this is a spear you can hand down, not one that cracks the first time it is used in earnest.

How It's Made
01
Steel Selection
We start with 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — tough, springy, and proven for impact.
02
Hand Forging
The bar is heated and hammered to shape by hand, aligning the grain along the blade for strength and a true leaf profile.
03
Heat Treatment
The blade is water-tempered to set a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible spine that absorbs shock instead of snapping.
04
Hand Finishing
Your chosen finish is applied, the metal handle is leather-wrapped and fitted, and a matching leather scabbard is stitched to fit.

Care & Maintenance
After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).
Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.
Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.
Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
Handle care: Condition the leather wrap occasionally with leather conditioner or saddle soap.

Is this a real, functional spear or just a display prop?
It is both. The Achilles Spear is a real, fully hand-forged spear in 5160 high-carbon steel with a full tang and a functional, sharpened edge — genuinely battle-ready in construction. At the same time, its finish options and striking leaf blade make it an outstanding fantasy and medieval display piece. It is not foam, latex, or resin.
Can I actually use it for thrusting, throwing, or hunting?
Yes. The full-tang, water-tempered 5160 construction is built to take real impact, and the broad leaf blade is an effective thrusting and cutting profile. It is suitable for thrusting drills, throwing practice, bushcraft, and hunting use where a short spear is legal and appropriate in your area. Always check your local laws on use and carry before taking any blade into the field.
Can I use this for LARP or contact stage combat?
This is live steel, so it is intended for display, cosplay, photography, reenactment posing, and real functional use rather than contact combat. Most LARP and contact-combat events require foam or blunted safety weapons and will not allow sharpened steel. If you want a piece purely for safe handling, ask us about a fully blunted display edge.
How customisable is this spear?
Fully. Using the dropdowns at the top of the page you can choose the blade finish, blade length (10, 12, or 14 inches), handle material, and scabbard colour, plus add free engraving or upload your own logo or artwork. Every standard option is included in the price — you are configuring a one-of-a-kind piece rather than buying off the shelf.
What steel is it made from, and is it durable?
It is forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck springs — a steel prized for toughness, flexibility, and edge retention. It is water-tempered for a hard edge backed by a spine that flexes under impact instead of snapping, and the full-tang construction keeps the blade locked solidly through the handle for genuine battle-ready strength.
Is the blade sharpened, and can I get it unsharpened?
The blade ships hand-sharpened and functional by default. If you would prefer a display, unsharpened edge that is safer around a costume, a crowd, or a home display, note it in your order or send us a message before we forge and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.
Does it come mounted on a full-length pole or shaft?
No — this is a one-handed war spear with a 22-inch leather-wrapped metal handle and a standard overall length of 34 inches, not a long pole arm. That keeps it display-friendly and safe to ship worldwide. If you specifically need a longer mounted shaft, request it as a custom build and we will forge to your specification.
Can I have my name, runes, a logo, or a photo engraved on it?
Yes. Free engraving of a name, initials, date, runes, or a short message is included, and you can also upload a logo, sigil, crest, or artwork for custom photo-and-logo engraving on the blade. It is a popular way to personalise a character build or create a unique gift.
Is this based on a movie or game like Troy or God of War?
No. It is an original Everest Forge design inspired by the warriors and legends of ancient Greece, including the hero Achilles. It is not a licensed replica of any film, game, or franchise, and we make no claim to be an exact reproduction of any on-screen prop.
How long does it take to make and ship?
Each spear is hand-forged to order, with a production time of about 3–5 business days. It then ships worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking, typically 5–10 business days in transit — roughly 8–15 business days from order to delivery.
Do you ship to my country, and what about customs?
We ship worldwide from Nepal with fully tracked, insured delivery. International orders may be subject to customs duties or import taxes set by your own country's customs authority, paid separately by you on delivery. Please also check that owning this type of blade is permitted where you live before ordering.
What is your return and warranty policy?
Standard configurations carry a 30-day satisfaction guarantee in unused condition. Custom configurations — custom length, finish, handle, or engraving — are forged to your specification and are non-returnable. Every spear is backed by a 6-month limited warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
