The Black-Blade Tactical Fighter of the Predator Collection

The Predator Movie Knife is the tactical fighter of Everest Forge's Predator-inspired collection — a 12-inch hand-forged combat knife with a blackened high-carbon blade, a steel glass-breaker pommel, and the long upswept clip-point profile of a serious fighting knife. Where the Predator Bowie is a compact hunting blade and the Predator D-Guard Bowie is a heavy display piece with Civil War lineage, this is the knife built for tactical EDC, combat training, and the kind of utility work that demands a fighting profile.

Forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from oil-tempered high-carbon steel, the blade carries a natural blackened finish achieved through controlled heat treatment — not paint, not coating. The 7-inch full-tang rosewood handle is fitted with a steel guard and finished with a steel skull-crusher pommel at the rear. The hand-stitched leather sheath features a brass Everest Forge medallion on the throat. Every detail is built for working use, not display.

What Makes This Predator Movie Knife Different

This is the only blade in our Predator-inspired collection with a true blackened finish and a glass-breaker pommel — two features that matter the moment you stop using a knife as decoration and start using it as a tool.

  • Natural blackened blade finish — achieved through controlled heat treatment of high-carbon steel, not paint or chemical coating. The black is part of the steel, not a layer on top of it. It will not chip, peel, or fade with use. Wear creates a working patina that makes each blade look more like itself over time, not less.
  • Steel glass-breaker pommel — the metal striker at the back of the handle is a real tactical feature. Built for emergency window-breaking, hammering tent stakes, cracking through brittle materials, or as a striking weapon in a defensive grip. Most "combat knives" on the market call themselves tactical without including this kind of feature.
  • Long upswept clip-point fighter profile — the aggressive forward-curving point gives this knife exceptional piercing power and tip control. Built for combat training, defensive use, and detail work where a standard bowie's belly-heavy profile is too clumsy.
  • Oil-tempered high-carbon steel — heat-treated in oil rather than water, producing a slightly tougher edge for combat applications where chipping resistance matters more than absolute hardness.
  • Full-tang construction with steel guard — single continuous piece of steel from tip to pommel. The handle scales are pinned through the tang. Steel front guard protects the index finger during heavy thrusting use.
  • Hand-forged in Nepal — every piece shaped on the anvil by master smiths in Kathmandu. Each blade carries small hand-finished details no stamped tactical knife can reproduce.
  • Hand-stitched leather sheath with brass medallion — natural leather formed to the blade, not generic kydex or nylon. The Everest Forge brass disc on the throat marks every authentic piece.
  • Cosplay & convention safe — request a blunted edge in your order notes and the same blade ships convention-ready.

The Black Blade — Heat-Treated, Not Painted

Most "black blade" combat knives on the market use one of three methods: black powder coat (peels), Cerakote (chips), or chemical blueing (fades). All three are layers applied on top of bright steel — strip the layer and you get a regular blade.

The Predator Movie Knife uses none of these. The blackened finish is achieved through controlled heat treatment — the smith brings the carbon steel to a specific temperature and oil-quenches it in a way that produces a black oxide layer integral to the steel itself. The black is part of the metal, not a coating on top. It will not chip or peel. It develops a natural working patina with use that real users prefer to a uniform factory black. Each blade comes out slightly different — the way a real blacksmith's work should.

What the Glass-Breaker Pommel Is For

The metal striker at the back of the rosewood handle is a real tactical feature, not decoration. Pommel use cases include:

  • Emergency window breaking — vehicle escape, building escape, breaching glass barriers in a survival scenario.
  • Hammering — driving tent stakes, breaking up frozen ground, splitting bone, cracking nuts and shells in camp.
  • Defensive striking — in a reverse grip, the pommel becomes an impact weapon. Standard issue feature on military fighting knives.
  • Driving stakes or pins — bushcraft and shelter-building tasks where a hammer would normally be needed.

None of the other Predator products in our collection have this feature. If you want a blade that doubles as a tactical impact tool, this is the one.

Customise Your Predator Movie Knife

Every Predator Movie Knife is forged to order. Use the option menus above the Add to Cart button to configure your blade:

  • Blade Finishing — Satin, Polished/Mirror (+$5), Raw/Forge Finish (–$5), or Blacked/Coated (default — the signature black blade finish).
  • Blade Length — 10" (–$25 — compact tactical), 12" (default), 14" (+$30 — larger combat blade), or 16" (+$55 — full short-sword tactical fighter).
  • Handle Material — Rosewood (default), Whitewood/Sadhan (lighter Nepalese hardwood), Horn, Rosewood+Whitewood combo (+$10 — unique), or Rosewood+Horn combo (+$10 — unique).
  • Sheath Colour — Black, Brown, Yellow, Red, Green, or Blue leather. Black is the most popular for tactical use.
  • Personalisation — add a name, initials, unit insignia, or short message engraved on the blade. Free with order. Engraving on a black-blade fighter is particularly striking — the polished engraving stands out against the heat-treated black finish.
  • Custom Logo or Photo Engraving — upload your own image for engraving. Useful for unit insignia, military commemorations, or commission gifts.

If you want a Predator Movie Knife built outside these standard options — different blade geometry, brass guard, hand-tooled scabbard detail, full custom forge — the Custom Forge service can build it from your reference image or specification.

Built For

  • Tactical EDC & combat training — full-tang construction, oil-tempered edge, glass-breaker pommel, and fighter profile make this a genuine tactical knife. The aggressive clip-point and steel guard support real combat-style training cuts.
  • Heavy-duty utility work — the glass-breaker pommel doubles the blade's usefulness. Hammering stakes, breaking glass, driving pins, splitting hard materials. The black blade resists the surface corrosion that worries users of polished combat knives.
  • Predator film fans & tactical knife collectors — the most visually distinctive Predator product in the collection. The two-tone blackened blade with bright cutting edge is what most people picture when they imagine a "movie knife".
  • Camping & bushcraft — still fully functional for camp work. The pommel especially shines in bushcraft applications (stake-driving, splitting kindling, breaking up frozen ground).
  • Display — the dramatic black blade and brass-medallion sheath read powerfully on a wall or in a glass case. Pairs well with the D-Guard Bowie for collectors building out the Predator set.

Cosplay, Conventions & LARP

The Predator Movie Knife is the most visually striking of the Predator collection — the black blade with bright cutting edge is exactly what cosplay shoots and tactical-themed costume builds need. Most events require blunt edges for safety and weapon-policy compliance.

You don't need a separate cosplay version. Just add "Blunt edge for cosplay" in the order notes when you check out, and our smiths will ship the blade convention-ready — same forged steel, same blackened finish, same glass-breaker pommel, just a rounded edge instead of a working one. Always confirm your specific event's weapon-policy beforehand.

Care & Maintenance

The blackened finish on this blade is heat-treated into the steel rather than painted on top, so it cannot chip or peel — but the underlying steel is still high-carbon and will rust if neglected. After handling, wipe the blade down with a soft cloth, apply a thin coat of mineral or camellia oil, and store the blade in its leather sheath or on a display stand. The black finish will develop a natural patina with use that real users prefer to a uniform factory black. The blade can be re-sharpened by any competent knife sharpener — sharpening will expose bright edge steel against the blackened spine, which is the intended two-tone tactical look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the black blade painted or coated?

Neither. The blackened finish is achieved through controlled heat treatment of the high-carbon steel — the black oxide layer is part of the steel itself, not a coating applied on top. It cannot chip or peel. With use, the finish develops a natural working patina that most owners prefer to a uniform factory black. Sharpening exposes bright edge steel against the blackened spine, which is the intended two-tone tactical look.

What is the glass-breaker pommel for?

The metal striker at the back of the handle is a real tactical feature. Use cases include: emergency window-breaking (vehicle or building escape), hammering tent stakes, breaking up frozen ground, splitting bone, defensive striking in a reverse grip, and driving pins or stakes in bushcraft work. Standard feature on military fighting knives — most replica makers leave it off because it requires extra forging work. We include it because it makes the knife genuinely more useful.

How is this different from the other 3 Predator products?

Different blades for different jobs. The Predator Movie Knife is a tactical fighter — built for combat training, tactical EDC, and heavy utility work. The Predator D-Guard Bowie is a heavy 16-inch tactical bowie with a steel knuckle guard — display and Civil War crossover. The Predator Sword is a 2-piece survival kit (sword + utility knife). The Predator Bowie is a compact 10-inch hunting and camp knife. The Movie Knife is unique in the cluster for its blackened blade and glass-breaker pommel — the closest to a true "modern military fighter" profile.

Is this a real working knife or a movie display piece?

A real working knife. Hand-forged from oil-tempered high-carbon steel with a full working edge, full-tang construction, and a functional glass-breaker pommel. The Predator-inspired aesthetic gives it the look of a film survival blade, but the build is a serious tactical fighter. If you want a wall-display version with a blunt edge, request "Blunt edge for cosplay" in the order notes.

Will the black finish wear off?

The blackened finish cannot wear off — it is part of the steel itself, not a coating layer. Heavy use will create wear marks and a working patina, particularly along the cutting edge where sharpening exposes bright steel against the blackened spine. This is the intended two-tone tactical look. The blade does not need re-blackening or re-coating service.

Can I use this for cosplay or conventions?

Yes — the Predator Movie Knife is the most visually striking of the Predator collection, ideal for cosplay shoots and tactical-themed costume builds. Add "Blunt edge for cosplay" in the order notes at checkout, and we ship the same forged blade with a rounded edge instead of a working one. The blade is convention-ready out of the box. Always confirm your specific event's weapon-policy beforehand.

Can the blade length and handle be customised?

Yes. Four blade lengths from 10" to 16". Five handle materials including unique combinations (Rosewood+Whitewood, Rosewood+Horn). Six sheath colours. Free engraving and personalisation. The customisation depth on this product allows the same base design to be configured as a compact tactical EDC (10") or a full-on tactical short-sword fighter (16").

How long does the order take to ship?

Standard configurations typically ship within 5 to 10 business days. Heavily customised builds — non-standard blade lengths, combination handle materials, deep engraving — usually take 3 to 5 weeks because each piece is forged to order. Worldwide shipping is via DHL or FedEx with full tracking.
