Kindjal Sword | Hand Forged Russian Short Sword Machete

The Kindjal is a traditional short sword known for its double-edged, leaf-shaped blade and powerful thrusting and slashing capabilities. Popular among Caucasian, Russian, and Persian warriors, the Kindjal was both a sidearm and a status symbol—valued for its compact size, lethal efficiency, and practicality in close combat.

This modern interpretation by Everest Forge blends the essence of the historical Kindjal with the ruggedness of a working machete. The 18-inch hand-forged carbon steel blade is sharpened, water-tempered, and polished to handle heavy-duty fieldwork and cutting tasks. The rosewood full tang handle offers superior grip and balance, while the included leather-wrapped sheath ensures safe and easy carry.

Historical Background

The Kindjal (or Qama) is a traditional short sword that originated in the Caucasus region, later adopted by Cossack warriors and Russian military units, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its design features a straight or slightly curved, double-edged blade—often compared to a large dagger or short gladius—and was worn on the belt for quick draw in close-quarters combat.

Kindjals were favored for their compactness and piercing ability, especially in mountainous terrain where long swords were impractical. Though traditionally double-edged, modern and regional variations (like machete-inspired forms) have adapted the design into single-edged, heavier-duty blades, perfect for use in survival, bushcraft, and heavy outdoor applications.
