Afghan Khyber Sword | Hand Forged Historical Warrior Blade
The Khyber Sword, also known as the Khyber Knife or Salwar Yatagan, is one of the most iconic blades of Central and South Asia—known for its rugged strength, piercing power, and historical use by tribal warriors across the Khyber Pass. This hand-forged version, made by Everest Forge in Nepal, captures the authentic style of the original while offering modern functionality and craftsmanship.
With its narrow, thick spine and razor-sharp single edge, the Khyber sword is built for armor-piercing thrusts and powerful cuts. The 24-inch carbon steel blade is water-tempered for maximum hardness and durability. The full tang rosewood handle ensures a secure grip for real-world utility, while the included leather-wrapped scabbard offers traditional protection and style. Whether used in the field or displayed as a collector’s piece, this sword honors centuries of warrior culture from the Afghan frontier.
Historical Background
The Khyber Sword (or Khyber Knife) originates from the Khyber Pass region, a strategic trade and military corridor between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Used primarily from the 17th to early 20th centuries, these swords were carried by Afghan tribesmen, Pashtun warriors, and fighters from northern India. They were especially valued for their ability to penetrate chainmail and padded armor, thanks to their thick, straight spine and reinforced point.
The blade's shape resembles a fusion between a yatagan and a gladius, with a wedge-shaped profile that makes it ideal for both cutting and thrusting. It was a symbol of strength, independence, and martial pride in the fiercely autonomous tribes of the region. Even today, antique Khyber swords are considered prized collector’s items and a symbol of Afghan heritage.
