Tactical Khopesh Sword — Hand-Forged 20" Blade with Full Harness Rig

Battle-Ready 5160 Spring Steel 20" Blade Full Tang Rosewood Raw Forge Finish Tactical Harness Included Free Engraving

The flagship 20-inch Tactical Khopesh from Everest Forge — hand-forged in Nepal from 5160 leaf-spring steel, full-tang rosewood, and finished with the signature raw-forge surface that shows the hammer-scale of the anvil. Ships with a full tactical harness rig — brass-riveted shoulder strap, multi-point D-rings, hip-or-back carry. Battle-ready out of the box, customizable in finish, scabbard color, and engraving. One Khopesh, built to your specification.

Built for Tactical Use, Not Display

This is the working-edge version of the Khopesh — heavier than the entry-level 16" machete, lighter than a full sword, geared for serious cutting and tactical carry. Three things define it.

Raw Forge Finish — The Default

Most khopesh swords ship polished to a generic mirror finish. Ours ships raw — the surface as it came off the anvil, hammer-scale visible, edge polished to bright steel. The honest aesthetic of a hand-forged Bronze Age blade. Polished, satin, and blacked finishes available if you prefer.

5160 Spring Steel, Not 1070

Direct competitors at half this price use 1070 high-carbon. We use 5160 — a chromium-bearing alloy developed for heavy-duty truck leaf springs. Tougher, more shock-absorbing, more forgiving under impact. The steel that survives years of pothole abuse becomes a blade that survives years of cutting.

Full Harness Rig Included

Not a simple hip sheath — a full brass-riveted tactical harness with shoulder strap, multiple D-rings, and adjustable back-or-hip carry options. The kind of carry system serious tactical-blade users build themselves. Yours comes with the blade.

Customize Your Tactical Khopesh

Every Tactical Khopesh leaves the forge configured to your specification. Most "tactical" khopesh swords on the market ship in a single fixed configuration. Yours is built to your choices.

Choose Your Blade Finish

  • Raw / Forge Finish — default, free. The hammer-scale, the bright cutting edge, the authentic Bronze Age look
  • Satin Finish (+$10) — brushed matte, lower glare, hides handling marks
  • Polished / Mirror Finish (+$15) — high-shine traditional sword finish
  • Blacked / Coated (+$10) — black oxide for full tactical aesthetic and corrosion resistance

Choose Your Scabbard Color

The harness rig and scabbard are hand-stitched yak leather over a shaped wood core. Yak leather is thicker and more weather-resistant than cowhide. Six colors:

  • Black Leather
  • Brown Leather
  • Yellow Leather
  • Red Leather
  • Green Leather
  • Blue Leather

Personalize Your Blade — Free

Free text engraving — name, initials, dedication, date, unit designation, or short phrase, hand-engraved into the blade ricasso. Approved by digital preview before any engraving touches the steel.

Custom logo or photo engraving — upload a file at checkout. Family crests, regimental badges, unit insignia, personal sigils, hieroglyph-style motifs, or photo-to-engraving conversions all welcome.

Want something fully bespoke? Custom blade length, alternative handle wood, special scabbard tooling, or full design from sketch — use Request Custom Forge for a one-to-one quote.

The Khopesh — Bronze Age to Modern Tactical

The Khopesh is one of the oldest documented swords on earth. It evolved from the Canaanite sickle-axe around 2500 BCE, entered Egyptian military use in the Middle Bronze Age, and reached its peak as the signature sidearm of Egyptian elite infantry and pharaohs under the New Kingdom (c. 1550–1070 BCE). Ramses II is depicted wielding one at the Battle of Kadesh. Two Khopesh swords were buried with Tutankhamun.

The forward-curving sickle profile was not decorative. The inside curve concentrated impact energy toward the tip. The hook caught shields and weapons. The forward weight made the slashing cut devastating. For over a thousand years it was the elite Egyptian close-combat blade — and modern tactical-blade designers have rediscovered exactly why it works.

This 20-inch reproduction follows New Kingdom battle proportions: 20" blade, 28" overall, 998g working weight, single-billet full-tang construction. The geometry is faithful; the steel is modern; the use case crosses both worlds.

Tactical Use Meets Modern Cosplay

The Tactical Khopesh occupies a rare space — a real hand-forged steel weapon that serves both modern working-blade users and serious cosplay and reenactment builders. The same blade handles both.

For Tactical & Working-Blade Users

Bushcraft, heavy-brush clearing, machete duty, modern survival kit, weighted cutting practice, historical martial arts study. The 998g balance is forward-weighted for chopping but agile enough for one-handed work. The full harness rig means you can actually carry it — not just hang it on a wall. Pair with our Heavy-Duty Bushcraft Knives and Machete collection.

For Cosplay & Reenactment

The Khopesh has had a major modern resurgence — Marvel's Moon Knight (Marc Spector / avatar of Khonshu) carries crescent-edged khopesh blades; Stargate SG-1 Jaffa warriors wield ceremonial khopesh; Assassin's Creed Origins features it as a wielded class; pharaonic costume builds across cosplay conventions rely on it. A real hand-forged steel khopesh with a full harness rig is the premium-tier choice over any molded plastic prop.

Who This Tactical Khopesh Is For

  • Tactical and working-blade users — bushcrafters, survivalists, machete users, and modern close-combat sword enthusiasts looking for a real hand-forged steel khopesh, not a stainless display piece
  • Battle-ready collectors — anyone who wants the largest, heaviest, most fully-equipped khopesh in the Everest Forge range, with the full harness rig as standard
  • Moon Knight / Khonshu / Stargate cosplayers — premium-tier cosplay builders who want a real steel blade over a plastic prop, with custom engraving and finish options to match their character
  • Custom-engraved gift buyers — free text engraving plus custom logo/photo engraving makes this a strong personalized gift for military retirements, milestone birthdays, history graduations, and presentation occasions
  • Historical sword collectors — Bronze Age and ancient Egypt collectors who want the New Kingdom battle pattern at full scale in 5160 carbon steel

Tactical Khopesh — Buyer FAQ

Is this Khopesh battle-ready, or display-only?

Fully battle-ready. The blade is 5160 high-carbon spring steel, hand-forged from a single billet, full-tang, water-tempered, and hand-sharpened at the forge. It meets our published Battle Ready Standard. You can display it, but it is structurally and functionally a working sword.

Why 5160 spring steel instead of 1070 or stainless?

5160 is a chromium-bearing alloy originally developed for heavy-duty truck leaf springs. It is tougher and more shock-absorbing than 1070 high-carbon, and dramatically more impact-forgiving than 420 stainless. For a working tactical khopesh that will see actual cutting use — not a wall-hanger — 5160 is the right choice. The trade-off is slightly less edge retention than higher-carbon options, easily managed with periodic sharpening.

What is "raw forge finish" and why is it the default?

Raw forge finish is the blade surface as it comes off the anvil — hammer-scale visible on the spine and flats, with the cutting edge polished bright. It is the authentic look of a hand-forged Bronze Age blade and the only finish that visually proves the blade was not factory-ground. We default to it because it is what this product is. Satin, polished, and blacked finishes are available if you prefer a different aesthetic.

What carry system comes with this Khopesh?

A full tactical harness rig. Hand-stitched yak-leather scabbard, brass-riveted construction, adjustable shoulder strap, and multiple D-rings allowing hip carry, back carry, or shoulder carry as you prefer. This is not a basic belt loop — it is a complete carry system, included with the blade.

Does it come sharpened?

Yes, sharpened at the forge before it ships. Hand-sharpened to a working edge — sharp enough to chop wood and clear brush, durable enough to hold the edge through real use. No optional sharpening fee, no blunt-by-default version.

What does the customization include? Is the engraving really free?

Yes. Free text engraving is included with every Tactical Khopesh — names, initials, dates, unit insignia, or short phrases. You can also upload a logo, crest, sigil, or photo for custom engraving. Choose blade finish from 4 options (Raw is default and free; Satin and Blacked add $10; Polished adds $15) and scabbard color from 6 colors at no extra cost. Approve a digital preview before we engrave.

How does this compare to your other Khopesh machetes?

This is the 20-inch flagship of the Khopesh machete tier — the largest blade, the most complete carry system, and the only one that ships with the full tactical harness rig included. Our 14-inch and 16-inch khopesh machetes are excellent compact-format alternatives at lower price points, but they ship with simpler scabbards. If you want the full-size flagship, this is it.

Is this Khopesh suitable for cosplay — Moon Knight, Khonshu, pharaoh costumes?

It is one of the strongest cosplay-tier choices specifically because the blade is real, the harness rig is included, and the engraving options let you customize for your character build. Marc Spector / Moon Knight, Stargate Jaffa, Khonshu-themed pharaonic builds, and Assassin's Creed Origins cosplayers all use real hand-forged khopesh blades like this one over plastic props. Note: weapon transport policies vary at conventions — check your venue rules.

How heavy is it? Will I be able to handle it one-handed?

998 grams blade weight (just over 2 lb). Forward-balanced for chopping work. Most adult users handle it comfortably one-handed; two-handed grip is also possible thanks to the 8-inch handle. Compared to competing 20" khopesh swords at 2 lb 7 oz and above, it is noticeably more agile.

Can I request a different blade length or fully bespoke design?

Yes. The four finishes, six scabbard colors, and engraving cover most personalization needs. For different blade length (the smaller variants are listed separately in our Khopesh range), alternative handle wood, custom scabbard tooling, or full bespoke design from sketch, use our Request Custom Forge service for a one-to-one quote.

Is the Khopesh the same as the Greek Kopis?

No. The Khopesh is Egyptian and dates from around 2500 BCE with a hooked sickle-shaped blade. The Kopis is Greek and dates from around 600 BCE with a forward-curving recurve profile. Different cultures, different eras, different geometry. If you want the Greek version, see our Kopis Sword collection.

How long does it take to make and ship?

Each Tactical Khopesh is hand-forged to order with your customization choices. Standard production is typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. We ship worldwide via DHL Express or FedEx with full tracking. International transit is typically 5 to 10 business days after dispatch.
