Hand-Forged Bowie Knife — Full-Tang 5160 Clip-Point Blade with Black Wood Scales
This is a hand-forged, fully functional Bowie knife — a large clip-point blade forged in Nepal from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, full tang, oil-tempered, and sharpened to a true cutting edge. It carries a long polished clip-point blade, black wood handle scales set with brass pins, polished steel fittings, and a black leather sheath. Every knife is made to order in your chosen length, finish, and engraving.
The standard blade is 16 inches on a 6-inch handle, for an overall length around 22 inches and a broad 2-inch blade. The long, forward-weighted clip point makes it a real, hard-working Bowie you can handle and display — not a cast wall-hanger.
An honest note. This is a modern, hand-forged Bowie knife, built as a real, functional blade and a collector's centrepiece. We frame it as the craft object it is rather than as an instrument of harm. What we care about is the steel, the clip point, the scales, and the balance.

A Bowie knife is a large fixed-blade knife defined by its long clip-point blade — a spine that drops in a concave or straight "clip" toward the tip for a fine, controllable point. It became an American icon in the 1800s as a heavy field, hunting, and utility blade. This one is a modern hand-forged interpretation in 5160 spring steel — a functional, full-tang clip-point Bowie with black wood scales and brass pins.

What is a Bowie knife?
A Bowie knife is a large fixed-blade knife defined by its long clip-point blade, where the spine drops toward the tip for a fine, controllable point. It became an American icon in the 1800s as a heavy field, hunting, and utility blade. This one is a modern, hand-forged interpretation in 5160 spring steel.
Is this a real, functional knife?
Yes. This is a real, fully functional Bowie, not a cast display piece. It is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, full tang, oil-tempered, and sharpened to a true cutting edge before it ships. It is built to be handled and cut with, and finished cleanly enough to display as a centrepiece.
What steel is it, and is it oil-tempered?
The blade is forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, the same alloy used in heavy-duty truck leaf springs, prized for toughness and edge retention. It is oil-tempered for a hard cutting edge backed by a flexible, shock-absorbent spine.
Is it full tang?
Yes. The tang runs the full length of the handle between the scales, so there is no rat-tail or glued-in tang to fail. Full-tang construction is what makes the knife strong enough to handle and cut with rather than just display.
What is a clip point?
A clip point is the blade shape where the back of the blade is "clipped" — it drops toward the tip in a straight or concave line, giving a sharper, finer point than a straight spine. It is the classic Bowie profile, good for controlled cutting and detail work while keeping a big cutting belly.
Can I change the blade length?
Yes. The standard blade is 16 inches, and you can order it shorter or longer to your spec. You can also choose the blade finish, the edge, and add engraving. Every knife is forged to the spec you select, so the size is yours to set.
What is the handle made of?
The handle has black wood scales set over a full tang with brass pins, and polished steel fittings. Each handle is shaped and fitted by hand for a secure grip.
Does it come with a sheath?
Yes. Every knife ships with a black leather sheath to protect the blade for storage and carry. It is made by hand to fit the blade size you order.
Can I add a name or engraving?
Yes. You can add a name, initials, or a short message to the blade, and you can upload your own logo or photo for custom engraving. Personalized blades are forged to order, so please confirm the details before you buy.
Is the knife sharpened on arrival?
Yes. Every blade is sharpened to a true cutting edge before it leaves the forge unless you request otherwise. It arrives ready to handle, cut, or display.
Do you ship worldwide, and how long does it take?
Yes. We ship worldwide from Nepal by DHL or FedEx in 7 to 14 business days with tracking. In-stock specs dispatch within 2 to 3 business days; fully custom builds take roughly 4 to 6 weeks to forge first. Import and blade laws vary by country, so please check your local rules before ordering.
Can I order a fully bespoke version?
Yes. Beyond the options on this page, our Custom Forge service builds blades to your own drawing or specification, including the profile, handle, and fittings. Use the Custom Forge page to send your idea and we will quote it. Lead time is typically 4 to 6 weeks.
