Hand-Forged Fantasy Short Sword — "Horn of Gondor" Boromir-Inspired Blade with Iron Fittings and Horn Grip

The Horn of Gondor is a Boromir-inspired fantasy short sword, hand-forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel and oil-tempered for strength. 30 inches overall: a 22-inch double-edged blade with an 8-inch polished horn grip, a down-swept iron crossguard, and an iron pommel, finished with a black leather scabbard. Full tang, hand-sharpened, with the darker, battle-worn character of Gondor's defenders. Customise the blade finish, blade length, handle and scabbard colour, with free personalisation and engraving. Worldwide shipping via DHL Express & FedEx International. 30-day satisfaction guarantee. 6-month warranty.

The Horn of Gondor is a fantasy-style short sword inspired by the heroic blades of Boromir and the defenders of Gondor from the legendary cinematic saga. Where our Steward of Gondor wears bright brass and red leather, the Horn of Gondor takes the darker path — a compact, purposeful blade dressed in natural horn and blackened iron, evoking a weapon carried through long campaigns rather than paraded in a throne room. It is named for the great Horn of Gondor that Boromir carries, a symbol of the call to arms and the duty of the House of Stewards.

This Everest Forge sword is hand-forged in our Kathmandu workshop from 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel and oil-tempered for strength and resilience, with a full tang running the depth of the handle. The 22-inch double-edged blade carries a central ridge and clean bevels, the down-swept crossguard and pommel are turned from iron for a sombre, historical weight, and the grip is shaped from polished natural horn. The black leather scabbard completes a piece that reads as a working sidearm of Gondor.

Small note: this is an original Everest Forge design, inspired by the Boromir / Gondor style from the Lord of the Rings films. It is not an official or licensed replica, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any film studio or rights-holder. This is a short arming sword, not a full-size knightly sword — a full-size build is available to order. Each blade is individually hand-forged, so small natural variations make every one unique.

The Blades of Gondor in Fantasy Lore

Boromir, Captain of the White Tower and heir to the Stewardship of Gondor, is defined as much by his horn as by his sword — the great Horn of Gondor, sounded in times of need, a symbol of the House of Stewards and the duty to answer the call. His blade is drawn from real 12th to 13th-century European arming swords: a leaf-influenced, double-edged form balanced for both the cut and the thrust, carried by a warrior who fights and falls defending his companions.

The Horn of Gondor short sword captures that sterner, field-worn side of the Gondorian aesthetic. Compact and purposeful, dressed in horn and iron rather than gold and jewels, it suggests a sidearm carried on the long marches and desperate stands rather than a ceremonial showpiece. It sits naturally alongside our brighter Steward of Gondor arming sword and the rest of our modern and fantasy swords collection.

What Makes This Hand-Forged Gondor Short Sword Different

Most fantasy "movie swords" on the market are cast stainless wall-hangers with screwed-on pommels and no real forging behind them. The Horn of Gondor is the opposite: a genuinely hand-forged, full-tang short sword in real working steel, dressed in natural horn and iron for an honest, historical feel you will not find on a mass-produced replica.

The blade is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel — the same battle-grade steel we use across our combat swords — oil-tempered for strength, with a central ridge drawn into the blade rather than ground in as decoration. The down-swept crossguard and pommel are iron, the grip shaped from polished horn, and the scabbard built from black leather. Nothing is cast as a single decorative unit; this is a sword built to be handled.

It is offered at the most accessible price in its range for a hand-forged, full-tang fantasy short sword of this quality — and every customisation is included rather than billed as an upcharge on the page. For collectors and fans who want a Boromir-inspired blade in real steel rather than a stamped souvenir, this is the right tier. Explore the wider range in our historical swords collection.

Customise Your Horn of Gondor Short Sword

Every Horn of Gondor sword is hand-forged to order in our Kathmandu workshop. Select your options on this page and specify any extra details in the order notes at checkout.

Blade Finishing

Choose the surface character of your blade — a clean satin finish for an understated look, a bright polished / mirror finish that contrasts the dark horn and iron, or a blacked / coated finish for the moodiest, most battle-worn presence.

Blade Length

The standard Horn of Gondor carries a 22-inch blade for a compact, fast short sword. Prefer a different reach? Select a shorter or longer blade length — or request a full-size arming-sword build through Custom Forge.

Handle Material

The grip is shaped from polished natural horn as standard, the heart of this sword's sombre look. Prefer wood? Rosewood and other handle materials can be requested to recolour and re-texture the hilt to your taste.

Scabbard Colour

Your sword ships with a black leather scabbard by default, matching the dark horn-and-iron theme. Choose a different colour — brown, red, green and more — to suit your display.

Free Personalisation & Engraving

Add a name, initials or a short inscription to make the blade your own, or upload a custom logo or photo for bespoke engraving. A personalised Horn of Gondor makes a memorable gift for a Lord of the Rings fan or a special occasion.

Variant or Custom Build

Want a full-size Gondorian sword, different fittings, or a particular blade geometry? Use our Custom Forge service and our smiths will forge it from scratch. Explore more heroic blades in our modern and fantasy swords range.

Who This Short Sword Is For

  • The Lord of the Rings fan who wants a darker, field-worn Boromir-inspired Gondor blade in real hand-forged steel rather than a stamped stainless souvenir.
  • The fantasy collector looking for a compact horn-and-iron companion piece to a larger Gondor arming sword.
  • The cosplayer and reenactor who wants a manageable, photogenic short sword for costume, stage or reenactment dress, with a display edge available on request.
  • The medieval-arms enthusiast drawn to the 12th to 13th-century arming-sword roots and the honest horn-and-iron fittings.
  • The gift giver marking a milestone for a Middle-earth devotee with a one-of-a-kind, personalisable blade.
  • The display enthusiast who wants a striking wall or stand piece — the central-ridge blade, iron guard and dark horn grip give the Horn of Gondor a sombre, commanding presence.

The 4-Step Forging Process

1

Steel Selection

5160 high carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs, cut to billet for your sword.

2

Hand Forging

Heated and hammered to shape, drawing out the straight double-edged short blade, its central ridge, and the full tang from the same billet.

3

Oil Temper

Heat-treated and oil-tempered for strength and resilience, then finished to your chosen blade surface.

4

Iron & Horn Fitting

Iron crossguard and pommel fitted over the tang, the polished horn grip seated, and a black leather scabbard built to fit. Engraving applied and quality-checked before shipping.

Care & Maintenance

Oil the blade regularly. 5160 carbon steel will surface-rust if neglected. Wipe the blade with mineral oil, gun oil, or food-grade camellia oil after handling and periodically during storage.

Care for the horn and iron. Keep the polished horn grip out of prolonged damp and direct sun, and wipe it occasionally with a little mineral oil to keep it from drying. Iron fittings can spot or patina over time; keep them dry and lightly oiled, and a gentle polish restores the finish.

Care for the leather. Condition the black leather scabbard with leather balm or beeswax every few months to prevent drying and cracking.

Respect the edge. This is a sharpened live blade. Handle, draw and sheathe it with care, keep it away from children, and use it only for its intended display, collection and controlled purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Horn of Gondor short sword?

It is a hand-forged fantasy short sword and an original Everest Forge design, inspired by the heroic blades of Boromir and the defenders of Gondor in the Lord of the Rings films. It pairs a straight, central-ridge 5160 leaf spring steel blade with a down-swept iron crossguard, iron pommel, and a polished horn grip, capturing the darker, field-worn side of the Gondorian aesthetic.

Is this an official licensed Lord of the Rings replica?

No. This is an original Everest Forge design inspired by the Boromir and Gondor style, not an official or licensed replica, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by any film studio or rights-holder. We offer a real hand-forged sword in that heroic design language rather than a licensed collectible.

Is it a full-size sword or a short sword?

It is a short sword — a 22-inch blade and 30 inches overall, built as a compact, fast Gondorian sidearm. It is not a full-size knightly arming sword. If you want a full-size Gondor blade, we can forge one through our Custom Forge service.

Is it a real, functional sword?

Yes. It is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel, oil-tempered, and built around a full tang that runs the entire length of the handle. It is a genuine working short sword, well suited to display, collection, cosplay and reenactment, plus controlled functional use — though not for contact sparring or LARP.

What steel is used, and how is it heat-treated?

The blade is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs, and oil-tempered for strength and resilience. The blade carries a central ridge and the tang runs the full length of the handle for strength.

Are the guard and pommel really iron?

Yes — the down-swept crossguard and the pommel are iron, chosen for the sombre, historical weight they give the sword against the polished horn grip. Iron can spot or develop a patina over time; keeping it dry and lightly oiled preserves the finish.

What is the handle made of?

The grip is shaped from polished natural horn, giving each sword a unique grain and a traditional, organic feel. If you prefer wood, rosewood and other handle materials can be requested through a custom order.

Can I change the blade length?

Yes. The standard blade is 22 inches for a compact short sword, but you can select a different length, or request a full-size arming-sword build, through our Custom Forge service.

Does it come sharpened?

Yes — the standard Horn of Gondor ships sharpened and ready to handle. If you would prefer a safer display edge, request an unsharpened display edge in your order notes and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.

How does this differ from your Steward of Gondor sword?

The Steward of Gondor is a larger 27-inch arming sword dressed in bright brass and red leather. The Horn of Gondor is a compact 22-inch short sword dressed in dark horn and iron — the field-worn counterpart. Same heroic Gondorian inspiration, different size and a sombre custom dress.

How is it shipped, and how long does it take?

We ship worldwide by tracked DHL Express or FedEx International from Kathmandu. Forging takes 3–5 business days, engraving may add 2–3 days, and international delivery takes 5–10 business days — typically 8–15 business days from order to delivery. Some countries restrict sword imports, so check local laws first.

How do I care for the blade and horn?

Keep the high carbon steel dry and lightly oiled to prevent rust, and wipe it after handling. Keep the polished horn grip out of prolonged damp and direct sun, oiling it occasionally so it does not dry, and condition the leather scabbard periodically.
