Dagger of Boromir — Hand-Forged 13" LOTR Gondorian Sidearm in 5160 Spring Steel
Boromir's matching companion dagger from The Fellowship of the Ring — hand-forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from 5160 high carbon spring steel, oil-tempered, full tang, with a 6-inch rosewood handle and leather scabbard. Customizable blade length (10"–18"), finish, and engraving at no extra charge.
In Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, Boromir, son of Denethor and Captain of the White Tower of Gondor, carries more than just his iconic longsword. At his belt sits a finely crafted Gondorian dagger — a sidearm worthy of the line of Numenor. This is the blade for close work when the longsword is too unwieldy. The blade for finishing what the sword started. The blade Boromir would have drawn at Amon Hen had the Uruk-hai closed too quickly for a longsword's reach.
The Dagger of Boromir is our hand-forged tribute to that companion blade. Forged by Nepalese master smiths from 5160 spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs — the same battle-grade steel we use for our combat-ready Roman gladii and Nepalese kukris — this dagger is built as a fully functional blade, not a wall-hanger replica. The 13-inch blade comes razor sharp from the workshop. The full-tang construction runs the entire length of the rosewood handle. The leather scabbard is hand-stitched. Everything about this piece is real.
Disclaimer: The Dagger of Boromir is an unofficial, hand-forged tribute and fan creation inspired by the Lord of the Rings films. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., the Tolkien Estate, or any official rights holder. We craft this dagger as a tribute to the design language and warrior aesthetic of Gondor as portrayed in the films.

+ Pair with Sword of Boromir → All Movie Swords → Custom Forge →Boromir's Sidearm — The Companion Blade of Gondor
Boromir is one of the most layered warriors in the Fellowship. He is the eldest son of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor. He is Captain of the White Tower and a veteran of decades of war against Mordor's forces along the eastern frontier. He is the heir to a martial tradition stretching back to Numenor and the Last Alliance — a tradition that valued not just the longsword, but the complete warrior's panoply: sword, dagger, shield, and bow.
In the films, the dagger Boromir wears at his belt is a deliberate piece of costume design. It signals him as a man of Gondor — a kingdom whose bladesmiths still remember the craft of the West. Where the hobbits of the Shire carry simple Barrow-blades scavenged from forgotten tombs, Boromir carries finely worked steel made for him by the smiths of Minas Tirith. The dagger is functional, but it is also heraldic — engraved, fitted, balanced, and worthy of his station.
The blade is the kind a warrior reaches for in close quarters. When formations break and combat collapses to arm's length. When an Uruk-hai gets inside the reach of the longsword. When you fight in tight spaces where a 22-inch blade cannot swing. In the Tolkien legendarium, Numenorean and Gondorian dagger-craft was inherited from the West — the same lineage that produced Anduril and the long-knives of the Dunedain Rangers. A Gondorian dagger was not a backup tool. It was a primary weapon for the right situation.
Our hand-forged Dagger of Boromir honours that lineage. Built to the same battle-grade standards as our combat Roman gladii and Nepalese kukris — not as a film prop replica, but as a real blade in the spirit of what Boromir would have actually carried into the wars of Middle-earth.
Why This Dagger Stands Apart
Real 5160 Spring Steel
Forged from reclaimed truck leaf springs — battle-grade steel with 0.6% carbon and 0.7% chromium content. Tough, shock-absorbing, and built to last decades. The same steel we use in our combat-grade swords.
Oil-Tempered for Daggers
Hand-quenched in oil bath then tempered to a working hardness around 52–55 HRC. Holds an edge through real use, takes a re-sharpen easily, and resists chipping under impact.
Full-Tang Construction
The 5160 steel runs the full length of the rosewood handle and is pinned through. No rat-tail tang, no welded joints, no glue-only fittings. This dagger will not separate from its handle.
Hand-Forged in Nepal
Made in our Kathmandu workshop by Kami master smiths using techniques refined across generations. Not stamped, not cast, not factory-pressed. Each blade is shaped under the hammer.
Sharpened Working Edge
Ships razor sharp and ready for use, training, or display. If you require a blunted training version for cosplay or stage work, mention it in your order notes — no extra charge.
Customizable at No Extra Cost
Choose your blade length (10"–18"), finish (satin, polished, black, or raw forge), handle material, scabbard style, and add Tengwar or English engraving. Made to your specifications.

Hand-Forged vs Movie Prop — What You're Actually Buying
Most Lord of the Rings dagger replicas on the market are decorative props made from stainless steel or zinc-aluminium alloy. They look correct in photographs. They feel hollow in the hand. They are made for shelves, not for use.
This dagger is the opposite. It is a real blade made by real smiths who have been forging functional weapons for generations. It is heat-treated correctly. The tang runs full length. The edge can be honed back to razor-sharpness as many times as you wish over the dagger's working life. If you handed this dagger to a medieval armourer, they would recognise it as a weapon. If you handed them a stamped-stainless film replica, they would not.
The price difference reflects the fundamental difference: this is a real dagger, not a film prop. It will outlive any movie merchandise replica by decades and pass to the next generation as a true heirloom blade.

Who This Dagger Is For
The Dagger of Boromir is designed for a specific kind of buyer. If any of the following sounds like you, this is the right blade for your collection.
The serious Lord of the Rings fan
You've read the books, watched the extended editions multiple times, and you understand that Boromir is one of the most tragic and complex warriors in the legendarium. You want a piece of Middle-earth steel that honours the source material — not a stamped novelty replica. This dagger is forged in the spirit of what a real Gondorian smith would have made.
The cosplayer
You are building a Captain of Gondor outfit for a convention, a film festival, a wedding, or a renaissance fair. You need a blade that looks correct in photos and on stage, but you also need it to be safe and durable. We can supply this dagger sharpened (for static display and photography) or completely blunted (for stage combat and active cosplay). Mention your preference in your order notes.
The EDC and bushcraft enthusiast
You appreciate the dagger as a functional tool, not just a costume piece. A 13-inch full-tang 5160 blade with a properly fitted rosewood handle is genuinely useful in the field — for camp work, food prep, fire prep, and as a defensive tool. The Gondorian aesthetic is a bonus on top of a real working blade.
The serious blade collector
You collect hand-forged blades from around the world. Japanese tanto, Filipino kris, Nepalese kukri, Roman pugio, European bollock daggers. Adding a properly hand-forged Gondorian-style dagger from a Nepalese workshop is exactly the kind of cross-cultural piece your collection rewards. This is a true forged blade, not a casting.
The gift buyer
You are buying for a friend, partner, or family member who loves the Lord of the Rings and would appreciate something that goes beyond the usual merchandise. A hand-forged dagger with optional Tengwar engraving (their name, a meaningful date, a favourite quote in Elvish) is a gift that gets remembered for life. We can ship to any address worldwide and include a gift note.
The Sean Bean fan
Boromir is one of Sean Bean's most iconic roles. If you are a fan of his work — the death scene at Amon Hen alone is one of the most quoted in modern cinema — this dagger is a tangible tribute to that performance and to the character he brought to life.
How It's Made — The 4-Step Process
1
Steel Selection
5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs. The same steel we use for our combat swords and battle-grade kukris. Cut to billet size for your chosen blade length.
2
Hand Forging
Heated in a coal forge and shaped under the hammer by Kami master smiths. The blade is forged to profile, the tang drawn out, and the edge geometry roughed in.
3
Heat Treatment
Quenched in oil for daggers (gives a tougher, less-brittle blade than water quench), then tempered to working hardness around 52–55 HRC. This is what makes it a real blade, not a decorative one.
4
Finishing
Blade ground, sharpened, and finished to your chosen surface. Rosewood handle fitted and pinned. Engraving applied if requested. Leather scabbard hand-stitched. Quality-checked before shipping.
Total time from order to dispatch: 3–5 business days for standard configurations. Custom engraving and unusual blade lengths may add 2–5 days.

Shipping, Returns & Warranty
Processing. Every Dagger of Boromir is made to order in our Kathmandu workshop. Forging and finishing takes 3–5 business days from the time your order is confirmed. Custom configurations with unusual blade lengths or extensive engraving may take an additional 2–5 days.
Shipping. We ship worldwide via DHL Express and FedEx International with full tracking from dispatch. Transit time is typically 5–10 business days depending on your country. Total time from order to delivery is generally 8–15 business days. Some countries restrict the import of bladed weapons — please check your local laws before ordering. Customs duties (if applicable) are the responsibility of the buyer and vary by country.
Returns. If you are not satisfied with your dagger for any reason, return it within 30 days for a full refund or a free re-build to different specifications. We cover return shipping if the issue is a craftsmanship defect.
Warranty. Every Dagger of Boromir carries a 6-month craftsmanship warranty against forging defects, handle separation, or scabbard failure under normal use. This warranty does not cover edge damage from misuse, rust from neglect, or damage from non-cutting impacts (e.g. dropping the dagger on hard surfaces). For full terms, see our FAQ page.
Care & Maintenance
Oil the blade regularly. 5160 carbon steel is tough and battle-grade, but it will surface-rust if neglected. Wipe the blade down with a thin coat of mineral oil, gun oil, or food-grade camellia oil after every handling and once a month during storage. This is the single most important thing you can do for the blade's longevity.
Keep it dry. Avoid storing the dagger in humid conditions or in the leather scabbard for long periods (leather can trap moisture and accelerate corrosion). For long-term storage, remove the blade from the scabbard and wrap it in oiled cloth.
Sharpen with a whetstone. The 5160 steel takes a fine edge easily. Use a 1000/3000 grit whetstone for routine maintenance, or a strop for between-use touch-ups. Avoid powered grinders — they generate heat that can damage the temper.
Care for the rosewood handle. Rosewood is naturally oily and durable, but a light rub with linseed or tung oil every 6 months will keep it from drying out, especially in dry climates.
Inspect the tang pins. Once a year, check the tang pins for any signs of looseness. The full-tang construction should remain rock solid for the lifetime of the blade, but inspecting is good practice for any working tool.

+ Pair with Sword of Boromir → All Movie Swords → Custom Forge → Ask a Question →Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is the Dagger of Boromir?
The Dagger of Boromir is our hand-forged tribute to the Gondorian sidearm dagger worn by Boromir in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is a 13-inch (default) full-tang dagger forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from 5160 high carbon spring steel, oil-tempered, with a 6-inch rosewood handle and hand-stitched leather scabbard. It is a real, fully functional dagger — not a stainless-steel decorative replica.
Is this an officially licensed Lord of the Rings product?
No. The Dagger of Boromir is an unofficial, hand-forged tribute and fan creation. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., the Tolkien Estate, or any official rights holder. We craft this dagger as a tribute to the design language of Gondor as portrayed in the films — in the same way independent bladesmiths have always made interpretations of weapons from books, history, and film.
Should I buy the Sword of Boromir and Dagger of Boromir as a set?
Yes, if you want the complete Captain of Gondor loadout. In the films, Boromir wears both blades simultaneously — the longsword as his primary weapon and the dagger as his sidearm. We've forged both pieces in matching 5160 spring steel with the same Gondorian aesthetic so they display perfectly as a matched set. Order each piece individually: the Sword of Boromir at $164.99 and this dagger at $149.99. Mention in your order notes that you want them forged as a matched pair and we'll ensure the finish, handle, and scabbard styles align.
What blade length should I choose?
Default is 13 inches, which is the closest match to the screen-accurate dagger Boromir wears in the films. Choose 10–11 inches for a compact EDC-style dagger that will sit discreetly on a belt. Choose 14–16 inches for a larger fighting knife with more reach — closer to a Roman pugio or Scottish dirk in scale. Choose 17–18 inches if you want a true short-sword crossover that can serve as a primary weapon. The 13-inch default is the most balanced choice for general display and use.
Is the dagger sharpened, and can I order it blunt?
Yes — every Dagger of Boromir ships with a sharpened working edge, ready for use, training, or display. If you require a fully blunted training version (for stage combat, active cosplay, or shipping into countries that restrict sharp blades), simply mention this in your order notes at checkout. There is no extra charge for the blunt option, and we can also do a partial sharpen (functional for cutting but not razor-sharp) on request.
How do I sharpen and resharpen the dagger?
5160 spring steel takes a fine edge easily. For routine maintenance, use a 1000/3000 grit whetstone with a consistent 20-degree edge angle. Hold the blade steady, draw it across the stone in smooth strokes, alternating sides. For between-use touch-ups, a leather strop with polishing compound restores razor sharpness in 60 seconds. Avoid powered grinders — they generate heat that can damage the heat treatment of the blade. If you've never sharpened a knife before, this dagger is a forgiving blade to learn on.
Is this safe to use in cosplay or stage combat?
The standard sharpened version is not safe for active stage combat or contact-cosplay. It is a real, sharp dagger. For cosplay or stage use, order the blunted training version — we'll round the point and remove the cutting edge while keeping the visual profile identical. The blunted version is safe for posed photography, costume display, choreographed combat with a partner, and convention floors (where local rules permit). Always check the rules of any specific convention or event before bringing any blade.
Can you add Tengwar (Elvish) engraving?
Yes — this is one of our most popular customisations. Send us your text in your order notes (in English) and we'll handle the Tengwar transliteration if needed, or you can supply your own Tengwar text directly. Engravings can go on the blade flat, the guard, or the pommel. Up to 30 characters is included at no extra charge. Common requests: a name, a date, a quote from the books or films, a family motto, or a favourite line in Elvish. We can also engrave in English, Old English (Anglo-Saxon runes), or any other script you supply.
What handle materials are available?
Default is rosewood, which matches the warm dark tone of the screen-accurate dagger. Optional upgrades include buffalo horn (deep black, slight translucency), bone (cream-white, traditional), antler (textured, organic), micarta (modern composite, extremely durable), or resin hybrid (custom colours and patterns). We also offer a leather-wrapped option over the wood core for a more rustic field-warrior feel. Pricing is the same for all standard options.
Do you ship the Dagger of Boromir worldwide?
Yes — we ship to most countries worldwide via DHL Express and FedEx International with full tracking from dispatch. Some countries restrict the import of daggers and bladed weapons — including Australia, the UK, Germany, and parts of the EU. Contact us if you're unsure about your country's import laws before ordering. We can supply a blunted version with shorter blade length to assist with import in restricted regions.
How long will it take to arrive?
Forging and finishing in our Kathmandu workshop takes 3–5 business days. DHL Express or FedEx International delivery takes another 5–10 business days. Total time from order to delivery is typically 8–15 business days. Custom configurations with unusual blade lengths or extensive engraving may add 2–5 days to the forging stage. You'll receive tracking information by email as soon as your dagger ships.
Will I have to pay customs duties?
It depends on your country. The dagger ships from Nepal as a hand-forged artisan product. Some countries (US, Canada, most of Asia) charge minimal or no duties on small artisan imports. Others (UK, EU, Australia) may charge VAT or GST plus a small handling fee. Customs duties, if applicable, are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in the product or shipping price. Contact us if you'd like an estimate for your country before ordering.
What is the difference between this and the Sword of Boromir?
The Sword of Boromir is a 22-inch one-handed longsword — Boromir's primary weapon. This dagger is the matching 13-inch sidearm he wears at his belt. Both use the same 5160 spring steel, the same oil tempering, and the same Gondorian aesthetic. The sword is for full-extension swing combat and main-weapon roles. The dagger is for close-quarters work, EDC carry, sidearm display, and as the second half of a complete warrior's loadout. Many of our customers buy both as a matched set.
Can I order a fully custom Gondor-themed dagger?
Yes. We build fully bespoke movie weapon replicas through our Custom Forge service. We can replicate other Gondorian weapons (Faramir's blades, the Citadel Guard daggers, the Numenorean Rangers' long-knives), build custom Gondor-themed weapons from your own sketch or reference photo, add elaborate heraldic engraving (the White Tree of Gondor, your own custom sigil), or work in unusual materials like Damascus steel. Custom Forge starts at $75 USD and pricing scales with complexity. Submit your design at the Custom Forge page.
