What sets this one apart is the hilt: the guard, grip and pommel are all carved from wood, with slim brass collar accents, for a warm, organic look that no metal-furniture sword can match. Hand-forged in Kathmandu by Nepalese master smiths from 5160 high carbon spring steel (recycled truck leaf-spring stock), water-tempered, full-tang. A 25-inch straight double-edge blade with an 8-inch wooden grip, carried in a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard. Available in seven blade lengths from 18 to 30 inches.

The La Tène culture gave Iron Age Europe its signature weapon: a long, straight, double-edged sword built to slash from horseback and in open formation. The Gaulish and Gallic warriors who carried such blades ranged from the Atlantic to Central Europe, and many of their swords were finished with organic materials — wood, horn and bone — rather than the metal furniture of later eras.

This sword leans into that tradition. The whole hilt is shaped from wood: a carved wooden guard at the blade's shoulder, a comfortable wooden grip, and a sculpted wooden pommel, joined by slim brass collars. Care & Maintenance

After every use: wipe the blade clean and dry, then apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).

Wood hilt: keep the wooden guard, grip and pommel away from prolonged damp. An occasional wipe with a little wood oil or beeswax will keep the wood from drying out and preserve its finish.

Storage: store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage inside the leather scabbard. A display stand or wall mount is recommended.

Rust spots: light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and is easily removed with very fine steel wool (grade 0000) and a few drops of oil.

Sharpening: use a quality whetstone at 22 to 25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.
