Sirupate Ranger Kukri – Modern Field Adaptation of a Classic Nepalese Blade
The Sirupate Ranger Kukri is a modern field-oriented adaptation of the traditional Sirupate kukri, one of the most distinctive and refined kukri forms from Nepal. While preserving the long, narrow blade profile that defines the Sirupate, this Ranger version introduces a protective guard and full tang construction for enhanced safety, strength, and control.
What Is a Sirupate Kukri?
The Sirupate kukri is a classic Nepalese kukri style known for its slimmer blade, extended length, and fast handling characteristics. The name “Sirupate” translates roughly to “leaf of the sisau tree,” referring to the blade’s long, narrow, leaf-like profile. Unlike heavier chopping kukris, the Sirupate was traditionally favored for agility, reach, and precise cutting.
Historically, Sirupate kukris were carried by soldiers, guards, and travelers who required a lighter, quicker blade that could still deliver effective cutting power. Its slimmer geometry allowed for faster recovery between strikes and better control during extended use, making it well suited for patrol, clearing light vegetation, and personal defense.
Modern Ranger Design
This Ranger version builds upon the Sirupate’s traditional strengths while addressing modern field requirements. The blade retains the classic Sirupate curvature and length, but is forged from carbon steel and oil tempered for improved toughness and durability.
A full tang handle provides superior structural strength and balance, while the integrated guard adds an important layer of hand protection, especially during powerful swings or use in wet and demanding conditions. These upgrades transform the Sirupate from a traditional utility blade into a more secure and versatile field kukri.
The kukri is paired with a Western-style leather sheath, designed for durability and practical outdoor carry, complementing the Ranger concept.
