Fantasy Seax Cleaver — 14-Inch Hand-Forged Tactical Chopper with a Sawback Spine
This is a hand-forged fantasy cleaver — a 14-inch tactical seax-style chopper forged in Nepal from 5160 leaf-spring steel, full-tang and water-tempered. A bold, modern fantasy blade built to work: a wide cleaver profile with a sawback spine, a long fuller, and a skeletonized tang with a hooked, drilled pommel. Equal parts working tool and warrior's blade.
This is not a historical seax and does not pretend to be one. It takes the raw idea of the Germanic and Norse seax and reimagines it as a tactical fantasy cleaver — the kind of blade that looks like it belongs in a survival kit or a fantasy armoury, and chops like it means it. The wide forward belly delivers cleaver-style cutting power, while the clipped tip keeps it quick.
The detailing is where it earns the "fantasy" name: a sawback spine for a tactical look and light utility notching, a deep fuller down the blade, and a skeletonized tang with whitewood scales and a hooked pommel that drops the weight and sets the aesthetic. Underneath the styling it is real 5160 with a water-tempered edge, sharpened and ready, in a leather scabbard for carry.
Honest note: this is an original Everest Forge fantasy/tactical design — inspired by the seax but deliberately modern, not a historical replica. It is live steel — sharp, full-tang and functional — built for real chopping, clearing and survival use, plus collection and display, but not for contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring. The sawback is for the look and light utility, not a wood saw.

Plenty of fantasy cleavers are all show. This one is built on a genuine working platform: 5160 leaf-spring steel, a full tang, and a water-tempered edge that holds up to real chopping and clearing. The fuller and the skeletonized tang cut weight so a wide 14-inch cleaver still moves fast at around 720 grams, and the sawback spine and hooked pommel give it the tactical, fantasy-warrior silhouette without turning it into a wall-hanger. Style and function in one blade.

Caring for Your High-Carbon Cleaver
5160 is a high-carbon steel and will surface-rust if neglected. Keep the blade dry, wipe it down after use, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage — paying attention to the fuller, sawback and skeletonized cut-outs where moisture can collect. For long-term storage, keep it out of the scabbard so the edge stays dry.

What is this blade?
It is a fantasy cleaver — a 14-inch tactical, seax-style chopper with a wide cleaver profile, sawback spine, fuller and skeletonized tang. It is a modern fantasy design built as a real working blade, not a historical reproduction.
Is it a historical seax?
No, and we are upfront about that. It borrows the idea of the seax but reimagines it as a modern fantasy and tactical cleaver. If you want a historically accurate seax, see our historical seax sword range instead.
What are the sawback, fuller and skeletonized tang for?
The fuller and the skeletonized tang remove weight so a wide cleaver stays fast in the hand. The sawback spine adds the tactical, fantasy look and allows light utility notching. The blade keeps full strength where it cuts.
Does the sawback work as a saw?
It is best treated as a tactical styling feature with light utility use, such as notching or scraping, rather than a dedicated wood saw. The real work is done by the main cutting edge.
What steel is it made from, and is it full tang?
It is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf-spring steel with a water-tempered edge, and built full-tang for strength and balance even with the skeletonized cut-outs. It is a genuine working blade under the fantasy styling.
Does it come sharpened and ready to use?
Yes. Each blade is hand-sharpened and ready to use on arrival. It is live steel — sharp and functional — so it is not suited to contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring.
How heavy is it?
Around 720 grams. The fuller and skeletonized tang keep a wide 14-inch cleaver relatively light, so it chops with authority but still moves quickly.
What blade lengths can I order?
The standard blade is 14 inches. You can order it from 12 inches up to 26 inches, depending on how much reach and chopping mass you want.
What is the handle like?
A 5.5-inch handle with whitewood scales on a skeletonized full tang. Other woods such as rosewood and horn, and combinations, are available to order.
Can I personalise or engrave it?
Yes. You can add a name, initials or a short message, or upload a logo or photo for custom engraving. Personalisation is included at no extra charge on standard builds.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide by tracked, insured DHL or FedEx with secure checkout. Please check edged-blade import rules for your country before ordering, as they vary.
How do I care for the blade?
Keep this high-carbon blade dry, wipe it after use, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage, paying attention to the fuller, sawback and cut-outs where moisture can collect. For long-term storage keep it out of the scabbard so the edge stays dry.
