Rambo Part II Knife — 17-Inch Hand-Forged Mission Bowie with Full-Tang 5160 Spring Steel and Leather-Wrapped Handle

The Rambo Part II knife (also called the First Blood Part II knife or "Mission" knife) hand-forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from 5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs. 17 inches overall — 11.5-inch clip-point Bowie blade with a 6.5-inch leather-wrapped metal handle. The most cinematic Rambo blade of the 1980s — Jimmy Lile's larger, refined sequel to his original First Blood survival knife, rebuilt as a modern full-tang working knife. Matched scabbard and handle wrap colours, free engraving up to 30 characters. Worldwide shipping via DHL Express & FedEx International. 30-day satisfaction guarantee. 6-month warranty.

The Rambo Part II knife is the second blade in the Rambo film series — the iconic survival Bowie John Rambo carried in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985). Designed by Arkansas master knifemaker Jimmy Lile as a refinement of his original 1982 First Blood knife, the Part II is bigger, heavier, and more visually commanding — the blade that filled cinema posters and defined what an action-movie survival knife could look like. Lile called this design "The Mission" knife, and it is widely considered by collectors to be his finest film blade.

This Everest Forge Part II knife is a hand-forged tribute to that 1985 design, built in our Kathmandu workshop from 5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from real truck leaf springs — the same battle-grade material we use for our combat Roman gladii and Viking swords. Water-tempered for the right balance of edge retention and impact strength. Leather-wrapped metal handle for the classic First Blood-era survival-knife grip. Hand-stitched leather scabbard. The blade measures 11.5 inches with the knife totalling 17 inches overall — a substantial, commanding presence in the hand and a true heirloom-grade blade for collection or working use.

This is also one of two Part II handle variants in our collection. This listing is the leather-wrapped metal handle version — faithful to the cinematic First Blood-era aesthetic. The Rambo Part II Bowie with wood handle is the alternative for buyers who prefer the warmth and traditional look of a hardwood grip. Same blade, same forging process, different handle.

Unofficial hand-forged Rambo Part II tribute knife. Not affiliated with Lions Gate Entertainment, MGM, StudioCanal, Sylvester Stallone, the Jimmy Lile estate, Hibben Knives, Gil Hibben, Master Cutlery, United Cutlery, or any film studio or licensed knifemaker. Inspired by the design language of the 1985 Rambo: First Blood Part II survival knife for collectors and survival enthusiasts seeking a real hand-forged version.

The Most Cinematic Rambo Blade — Why Part II Stands Out

If you ask collectors which Rambo knife best captures the spirit of the franchise, the answer is almost always the Part II. The 1982 First Blood knife was an excellent survival tool, but it stayed visually subtle on screen — a 9-inch blade is a small thing in a wide cinema shot. The Part II changed that. Lile delivered a 14-inch blade (overall length close to 17 inches) with a more aggressive Bowie geometry, a darkened blade finish, and a leather-wrapped handle that looked at home in Rambo's hands during the film's most iconic scenes.

The Part II is also the knife most photographed and reproduced in the Rambo collector market. It's the design Master Cutlery licensed for their flagship First Blood Part II reproduction, and it's the design most casual fans picture when they think "Rambo's Bowie." The 17-inch overall length puts it in true short-sword territory — commanding for display, substantial in the hand, and unmistakably cinematic.

Our hand-forged Part II is sized to the film's proportions. The 11.5-inch blade and 17-inch overall length match the cinematic scale that gave the Part II knife its reputation. Whether you're a serious Rambo collector, a survivalist who wants the most imposing version of the First Blood-era survival knife in real working steel, or a Vietnam-era veteran who associates this blade with that period — the Part II is the right choice.

Hand-Forged vs Original Lile Mission II — What's the Same, What's Different

Honest comparison matters. Lile's 1985 Mission II knife was a specific design with specific construction choices. Our hand-forged tribute keeps the iconic Part II silhouette while making targeted improvements based on 40+ years of survival-knife evolution.

What's the same: The clip-point Bowie blade profile. The 17-inch overall length and substantial scale. The leather-wrapped handle aesthetic. The hand-stitched leather scabbard. The cinematic Part II silhouette anyone who has seen First Blood Part II recognises instantly.

What's different (and why):

  • Full tang construction instead of hollow handle. Lile's original used a hollow aluminium tube with survival kit and a compass mounted in the butt cap. Brilliant for 1985, but the hollow handle is structurally weaker than full tang under heavy chopping or batoning. Our Part II is full tang — the 5160 steel runs from blade tip to handle butt as a single unbroken piece, with the leather wrap covering a steel core. You lose the survival kit storage and butt-cap compass; you gain a knife that won't break under hard use.
  • 5160 high carbon spring steel instead of 440C stainless. Lile chose 440C for rust resistance in jungle conditions. We chose 5160 because it's tougher under chopping and batoning loads — the same steel used in our combat swords. Trade-off: 5160 surface-rusts if neglected; 440C does not. Anyone who actually uses a survival knife oils it as a matter of habit.
  • 11.5-inch blade. The hand-forged blade is sized to the film's proportions and consistent with the most-reproduced specifications of the Mission II knife. The full 17-inch overall length matches the cinematic scale of the on-screen blade.
  • No sawback spine. Lile's original Part II had serrated sawback teeth, like the First Blood knife. Ours has a smooth strong spine. The sawback was always more useful for the survival aesthetic than for actually sawing wood — we optimised for blade strength. A sawback version is available through Custom Forge.
  • No compass. Lile mounted a compass in the hollow aluminium butt cap. Our full-tang construction doesn't have a hollow butt to mount a compass. If a built-in compass is essential, the licensed Master Cutlery / United Cutlery First Blood Part II reproductions retain this feature.

For collectors who want the 1985 hollow-handle Mission II 100% faithful to Lile's specifications, look at the licensed Master Cutlery reproductions ($300–$700 range). For a real working hand-forged Bowie in the Part II design language built to outlast the original by decades, this is the right tier.

What Makes This Hand-Forged Part II Knife Different

The Part II knife market today is crowded. Amazon and BUDK sell licensed Master Cutlery / United Cutlery factory reproductions in the $200–$700 range — faithful to Lile's hollow-handle design with compass and sawback, but typically machine-finished display pieces. Pakistani makers flood eBay and Etsy with generic "Rambo Bowies" in unspecified Damascus-pattern steel. Cheap Chinese stainless replicas at $40–$100 are stamped, glued, and vinyl-wrapped — pure costume pieces.

This Rambo Part II knife is in a different category. Hand-forged from a single billet of 5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from a truck leaf spring — the same battle-grade steel we use for our combat swords. The full tang is drawn from the same billet. Water-tempered for edge hardness and impact resistance. The metal core of the handle is wrapped in real leather, hand-stitched and pinned. The scabbard is hand-stitched leather with reinforced corners and belt loops. Nothing is stamped, cast, or laser-cut.

Hand-forged 5160 spring steel knives sit in a different price bracket than factory reproductions because they're built to be used and to last decades. Buyers who want the 1985 Lile design 100% faithful with built-in compass and sawback will prefer the licensed reproductions. Buyers who want a real working hand-forged 17-inch survival Bowie will appreciate this.

Customise Your Rambo Part II Knife

Every Rambo Part II knife is hand-forged to order in our Kathmandu workshop. Specify your customisations in the order notes at checkout.

Matched Scabbard & Handle Wrap

Our most popular customisation. The leather-wrapped handle and the leather scabbard can be ordered in matched colours for a coordinated First Blood-era field look that no factory replica offers. Choose black, dark brown, tan, oxblood red, olive green, or navy blue. Black and dark brown are the most film-accurate to the 1985 Mission II look. No extra charge for matching.

Blade Finish

Choose satin finish (default), polished mirror finish (+$10, formal display sheen), blacked / dark coating (matches the darker on-screen Part II look), or raw forge finish (-$10, hammer marks visible for an aged hand-forged appearance).

Free Engraving (Up to 30 Characters)

Add a name, dates, military unit (USMC, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Special Forces), memorial dedication, or service inscription. Engraved on the blade flat at no extra charge. The Part II is a popular choice for veteran retirement gifts and KIA memorial commissions — the cinematic Mission II silhouette resonates particularly with Vietnam-era veterans.

Custom Logo & Photo Engraving

Upload a custom logo, military unit insignia, photograph, or family crest at checkout for laser-engraved replication on the blade. The 11.5-inch blade flat gives plenty of canvas for detailed engraving — perfect for elaborate memorial commissions.

Blunted / Display Version

If you need a fully blunted version for cosplay, stage props, or shipping into countries that restrict sharp blades (Australia, UK, Germany, Japan), specify "blunted" in your order notes at checkout. Same visual appearance, no cutting edge or point. No extra charge.

Variant or Custom Build

Want the same blade with a wood handle? See the Rambo Part II Bowie with wood handle. Smaller 1982 original? See the Rambo Part One knife. Custom modifications — sawback spine, hollow handle, different blade length? Use our Custom Forge service. Custom orders start at $75 above base price and ship in 2–3 weeks.

Why Buyers Choose This Variant Over the Wood Handle

The blade is identical between this listing and the Rambo Part II Bowie with wood handle — same 11.5-inch 5160 spring steel Bowie, same forging process, same water-temper, same full tang. The only difference is the handle.

The leather-wrapped metal handle (this listing) is the more cinematic, First Blood Part II-faithful aesthetic. The metal core gives a substantial, weighted feel in the hand. The leather wrap can be re-applied over decades as it wears. The handle absorbs shock during heavy chopping and offers a secure grip even in wet or sweaty conditions. This is the choice for buyers who want the on-screen Mission II look or who plan to use the knife in survival/bushcraft scenarios.

The wood handle variant uses a polished hardwood grip mounted to the same full tang. Wood is warmer to the touch, develops a richer patina with use, and has a more traditional working-knife appearance. The choice for buyers who prefer organic materials, want a knife that looks more like a custom hunting knife than a film prop, or want a slightly lighter overall weight.

Both perform identically. Choose based on the look and feel you want.

The 4-Step Forging Process

1

Steel Selection

5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs. Cut to billet for your knife.

2

Hand Forging

Heated in a coal forge and shaped under the hammer. The Mission II clip-point Bowie profile and full tang are drawn from the same billet.

3

Water Temper

Quenched in water for edge hardness, then tempered for the right balance of edge retention and impact resistance.

4

Leather Wrap & Fitting

Metal handle core fitted to the full tang and wrapped in your chosen leather colour. Scabbard hand-stitched in matched leather. Engraving applied. Quality-checked before shipping.

Shipping. Worldwide via DHL Express and FedEx International with full tracking. Transit time 5–10 business days depending on country. Total time from order to delivery is typically 8–15 business days. Some countries restrict the import of large fixed-blade knives — check local laws before ordering.

Returns. Not satisfied? Return within 30 days for full refund or free re-build to different specifications. We cover return shipping for craftsmanship defects.

Warranty. 6-month craftsmanship warranty against forging defects, handle separation, or scabbard failure under normal use. Edge damage from misuse, rust from neglect, and damage from non-cutting impacts are not covered. Full terms in our FAQ page.

Care & Maintenance

Oil the blade regularly. 5160 carbon steel will surface-rust if neglected. Wipe with mineral oil, gun oil, or food-grade camellia oil after every use and once a month during storage. The 11.5-inch blade has more surface area than smaller knives — pay extra attention to oiling the full length.

Care for the leather. Condition both the handle wrap and scabbard with leather balm or beeswax every 3–6 months to prevent drying and cracking. The handle wrap can be re-applied over decades as it wears.

Sharpen with a whetstone. 1000/3000 grit at a 20–25 degree angle on the cutting edge.

Store properly. Sheathed in the leather scabbard or on a display stand. The 17-inch overall length means most standard knife stands won't fit — consider a wall-mounted display rack designed for short swords or large Bowies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Rambo Part II knife?

The Rambo Part II knife (also called the First Blood Part II knife or "Mission" knife) is the survival Bowie John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) carried in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), the second film in the Rambo franchise. The original was designed by Arkansas master knifemaker Jimmy Lile as a refinement of his original 1982 First Blood knife — bigger, heavier, and more cinematic. Lile called this design "The Mission" knife, and it is widely considered his finest film blade. Our hand-forged tribute uses the same iconic Part II silhouette in 17-inch overall length with full-tang construction and a leather-wrapped handle.

How big is the Rambo Part II knife? Is it really 17 inches?

Yes — 17 inches overall length, with an 11.5-inch blade and a 6.5-inch handle. This matches the cinematic scale of Lile's 1985 Mission II knife. The 17-inch length puts it in true short-sword territory — commanding for display, substantial in the hand, and unmistakably "Part II." If you want a smaller version closer to the 1982 First Blood scale, see the Rambo Part One knife (16 inches overall, 10.5-inch blade). For a different blade length on the Part II profile, use our Custom Forge service.

Does this Part II knife have a hollow handle and compass like Lile's original?

No — this version uses full-tang construction with a leather-wrapped metal handle, not a hollow handle. Lile's 1985 original had a hollow aluminium tube with survival kit and a compass mounted in the butt cap. We chose full tang because it's structurally stronger under chopping, batoning, and prying loads. You lose the compass and survival kit storage; you gain a knife that won't break under hard use. If a built-in compass is essential, the licensed Master Cutlery / United Cutlery First Blood Part II reproductions retain that feature ($300–$700 range). If you want a real working hand-forged version of the iconic Part II silhouette, this is it.

What's the difference between the leather-wrapped and wood handle Part II versions?

The blade is identical — same 11.5-inch 5160 spring steel Bowie, same forging process, same full tang. The difference is the handle. This listing uses a leather-wrapped metal handle — the more cinematic, First Blood Part II-faithful aesthetic, with substantial weighted feel and shock-absorbing grip. The wood handle variant uses a polished hardwood grip — warmer to the touch, develops a richer patina with use, slightly lighter overall weight, more traditional working-knife appearance. Both perform identically. Choose based on the look and feel you want.

What's the difference between Part One and Part II?

The Part One knife is the original 1982 First Blood survival blade — 16 inches overall in our hand-forged version, 10.5-inch blade, more compact and practical. The Part II knife (this listing) is the 1985 sequel design — 17 inches overall, 11.5-inch blade, more aggressive and cinematic. Both were designed by Jimmy Lile and share the First Blood survival-knife design language, but the Part II is significantly bigger and more commanding for display. Many Rambo collectors own both as a matched pair representing the full Lile First Blood era.

Does this Part II knife have a sawback spine?

No — ours has a smooth strong spine. Lile's original Part II had serrated sawback teeth, like the First Blood knife. The sawback was always more useful for the survival aesthetic than for actually sawing wood — the tooth geometry doesn't cut wood efficiently. We optimised for blade strength and clean batoning over decorative serrations. A sawback version is available through our Custom Forge service for an additional charge.

Is this a licensed Rambo / First Blood Part II replica?

No. This is an unofficial hand-forged tribute, not a licensed reproduction. The official film licence for the Part II knife is held by Master Cutlery (the licensed maker of Lile-designed Rambo knives). Their licensed Mission II reproductions are machine-finished display pieces typically priced $300–$700 with the original hollow handle, sawback, and compass. We are not affiliated with Lions Gate, MGM, StudioCanal, Stallone, the Lile estate, Master Cutlery, or United Cutlery. We offer something different: a real hand-forged working knife in the Part II design language, built from 5160 spring steel by traditional smiths in Nepal.

Can I match the scabbard and handle wrap colours?

Yes — this is one of our most popular customisations and a meaningful upgrade over factory replicas. The leather-wrapped handle and the leather scabbard can be ordered in matched colours for a coordinated First Blood Part II look that no mass-produced replica offers. Choose black, dark brown, tan, oxblood red, olive green, or navy blue. Black and dark brown are the most film-accurate to the 1985 Mission II appearance. No extra charge for matching the colours.

What steel is used and why not 440C like Lile's original?

Our Part II knife is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs — the same steel used in heavy-duty automotive suspension systems. We chose 5160 because it's tougher under chopping and batoning loads than 440C stainless. Lile chose 440C for the original because it resists rust in jungle conditions. The trade-off: 5160 will surface-rust if neglected; 440C will not. Anyone who actually uses a survival knife oils it as a matter of habit. For working use, 5160 outperforms 440C; for display in tropical climates, 440C is easier maintenance.

Can I customise this knife with military insignia or memorial engraving?

Yes — the Part II is one of our most popular knives for memorial and retirement commissions, especially for Vietnam-era veterans who associate this 1985 blade with that period. Common requests we've fulfilled: USMC, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Special Forces unit insignia, memorial dedications with KIA dates, retirement gifts with service dates, names, family mottos, and family crests. Up to 30 characters of text engraving included free with every order. The 11.5-inch blade flat gives plenty of canvas for elaborate engraving — ideal for detailed memorial commissions. For custom logos, photographs, or complex artwork, upload your file at checkout.

Is the Rambo Part II knife sharp out of the box?

Yes — every Part II knife ships with a sharpened working edge ready for hunting, bushcraft, or outdoor use. For a blunted display version (cosplay, stage props, or shipping into countries that restrict sharp blades), specify "blunted" in your order notes at checkout. Same visual appearance, no cutting edge or point. No extra charge for the blunt option. The 17-inch overall length makes blunted versions particularly important for cosplay use — check your event/venue rules.

Is the Rambo Part II knife full tang?

Yes — full tang construction. The 5160 spring steel runs as a single unbroken piece from the blade tip to the butt of the handle. The leather wrap covers a steel core. This is the key difference between our version and Lile's original hollow-handle design. Full tang handles chopping, batoning, and prying loads that would crack a hollow-handle knife. With a 17-inch overall length and the leverage that comes with it, full tang is essential for any real working use of this blade.

Who designed the original First Blood Part II "Mission" knife?

The original Part II "Mission" knife was designed by Jimmy Lile (1933–1991), an American master knifemaker known as "The Arkansas Knifesmith." Lile worked from his shop in Russellville, Arkansas, and his Lile Lock folding knife sits in the Smithsonian Institution. Lile designed BOTH the First Blood (1982) and the First Blood Part II / Mission II (1985) knives — the only Rambo knives he made for the film series. He declined the Rambo III project in 1988, and Gil Hibben took over for Rambo III, IV, and V. Lile passed away in 1991. Surviving Lile Mission II knives sell at auction for $30,000–$80,000. For the full design history, read The History of the Rambo Knife.

Do you ship the Rambo Part II knife worldwide? How long does it take?

Yes — worldwide shipping via DHL Express and FedEx International with full tracking. Forging takes 3–5 business days; custom engraving may add 2–3 days; international delivery takes 5–10 business days. Total time from order to delivery is typically 8–15 business days. The 17-inch overall length means this knife needs to be declared as a fixed-blade weapon at customs in many countries. Some countries restrict import of large fixed blades — particularly Australia, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore. Contact us if unsure about your country's import laws. For restricted regions, the blunted version may be importable where the sharpened version is not.
