Pira Cotabato Machete – Hand-Forged Moro Working Blade
The Pira Cotabato is one of the Philippines’ most formidable traditional blades. Originating with the Yakan people of Moroland, it earned a deadly reputation for combat and ritual decapitation—yet proved just as valuable for day-to-day labor, from harvesting crops to butchering tuna on coastal docks. This modern recreation remains true to the classic design: a forward-weighted, wide-tipped blade that marries the chopping force of a barong with a terrifyingly effective thrusting point.
Hand-forged in Nepal from high-carbon spring steel, the 20-inch blade is water-tempered along the edge for superior hardness and shock resistance. Its broad profile delivers immense striking power, while the needle tip excels in piercing tasks. A shallow fuller runs the blade’s length to reduce weight without sacrificing strength.
A 7-inch rosewood handle is shaped for a natural grip and secured to the full tang with steel rivets. A slight flare at the pommel helps lock the machete into the hand during powerful swings. Each blade ships with a fitted leather sheath for safe carry in the field, on the farm, or at sea.
