The Mummy Medjai Sword — 18-Inch Hand-Forged Movie Replica with Customizable Blade Length
The Everest Forge Mummy Medjai Sword is a hand-forged replica inspired by the curved swords wielded by the Medjai warriors in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). Hand-forged in Kathmandu by Nepalese master smiths from 5160 high carbon spring steel, water-tempered, full-tang construction. 18-inch blade, 6-inch rosewood handle with leather wrap, leather-wrapped wooden scabbard. Total length 24 inches, weight 864 grams. Available in seven blade lengths from 14 to 26 inches, four handle materials (rosewood, white-wood, horn, bone), four blade finishes, and six scabbard colours.
This isn't a costume prop. It's a real functional sword built to the same standards as our combat-grade kukris and gladii — 5160 spring steel forged on the anvil, water-quenched, full-tang construction. Whether you're a fan of The Mummy films, an Egyptian history enthusiast, a cosplayer building an Ardeth Bay or Medjai warrior costume, or a collector of curved swords from the Beja and Sudanese traditions, this blade delivers cinematic presence with real-world performance.
Note: This is an unofficial, hand-forged tribute / fan creation inspired by the Medjai warrior swords seen in The Mummy (1999) film series. Slight variations in weight, dimensions, or finish may occur due to the handmade nature of the item. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Universal Pictures or any rights holder of The Mummy franchise.

Customise Your Medjai → Ask a Question →Who Were the Medjai? The Story Behind the Sword
The Medjai (also spelled Medjay or Magi) were an ancient Egyptian warrior society dating back to the Predynastic Period (c. 2400 BCE). Originally a Beja people from the Eastern Desert of Nubia, they served as elite scouts, paramilitary forces, and royal bodyguards under the Pharaohs of the Middle and New Kingdoms. By the time of Ramesses II and the New Kingdom era, the Medjai functioned as Egypt's most trusted internal security force — protectors of royal tombs, sacred sites, and the boundaries of the kingdom.
In Stephen Sommers' 1999 film The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns, this ancient order is reimagined as a secret modern brotherhood, sworn for over 3,000 years to prevent the resurrection of the cursed High Priest Imhotep. Led by the iconic Ardeth Bay (played by Oded Fehr), the Medjai of the films wield distinctive curved swords — the Medjai sword — designed for swift, precise cuts in the deserts of Egypt.
Our hand-forged replica honors both the historical Medjai (whose blades influenced the later Sudanese kaskara and Egyptian saif traditions) and the cinematic version that made the sword famous. The 18-inch curved blade matches the on-screen weapon's proportions while remaining a fully functional 5160 spring steel sword.

Hand-Forged vs Movie Prop Decoration
Search "Mummy sword replica" online and you'll find two types:
Type 1: Movie merchandise replicas. Mass-produced stainless steel, plastic-looking handles, no real edge, no customisation. Wall decorations made from movie licensing. Look like costume props.
Type 2 (this one): A genuine hand-forged sword in real 5160 spring steel, full-tang construction, water-tempered, customisable in seven blade lengths and four handle materials. Built to the same standards as our combat-grade gladii and kukris. Forged by Nepalese master smiths, made-to-order, fully functional.
The price difference reflects the fundamental difference: this is a real sword, not a film prop. It will outlive any movie merchandise replica by decades.

What is a Medjai sword?
The Medjai sword is a curved single-edge blade carried by the Medjai (also spelled Medjay or Magi) — an ancient Egyptian warrior society of Beja origin who served as scouts, paramilitary forces, and royal bodyguards under the Pharaohs from c. 2400 BCE. In The Mummy (1999) film and The Mummy Returns (2001), the Medjai are reimagined as a modern brotherhood led by Ardeth Bay. Their iconic curved swords inspired this hand-forged replica.
Is this an officially licensed Mummy movie replica?
No. This is an unofficial, hand-forged tribute / fan creation inspired by the Medjai swords seen in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). It is not licensed by Universal Pictures, Stephen Sommers, or any rights holder of The Mummy franchise. The blade itself is a historical reproduction drawing from Egyptian, Beja, and Sudanese kaskara traditions.
What's the difference between Medjai, Medjay, and Magi?
All three refer to the same ancient Egyptian warrior society. Medjay is the historical Egyptological spelling. Medjai is the Hollywood/film spelling popularised by The Mummy (1999). Magi is a common misspelling/mishearing — sometimes confused with the unrelated Persian Magi (priests/wise men). Our sword honours the films and the historical warriors regardless of spelling.
Is this the Ardeth Bay sword?
Yes — Ardeth Bay (played by Oded Fehr) is the most prominent Medjai warrior in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). The curved sword he wields throughout both films is the Medjai sword. Our hand-forged replica matches the proportions and curved profile of his on-screen weapon.
What blade length should I order?
The default 18-inch blade is the most balanced choice — matching the on-screen Medjai sword proportions. 14-inch (-$25) for compact display or knife-style use. 16-inch (-$10) for shorter-blade preference. 20-inch (+$25) or longer for collectors who want more presence. 26-inch (+$85) approaches sword-sword territory — impressive for display but heavier.
Is the Medjai sword sharpened?
Yes. Forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel, water-tempered, full-tang, and sharpened to a working edge. For cosplay, convention display, or stage combat where blunt blades are required, request a blunt training-edge version at no extra charge.
Is this safe for cosplay conventions?
Convention rules vary. Many require live steel weapons to be peace-bonded into the scabbard, or require blunt-edge versions. Request our blunt training-edge version at no extra charge for cosplay use. Always check your specific convention's weapons policy — some larger conventions ban functional metal weapons entirely.
How heavy is this sword? Can I wield it one-handed?
The standard 18-inch blade weighs approximately 864 grams (1.9 lb). The 6-inch handle supports comfortable one-handed use, and the curved profile is well-balanced for slashing motions. Longer blade lengths (22"+) become heavier and may favour two-handed grip for sustained use.
Do you also offer Medjai-style daggers or knives?
The Medjai sword is offered in a 14-inch blade length option (-$25), which functions as a long Medjai dagger or short Medjai sword. For other Egyptian-themed daggers and knives, see our Daggers collection or contact us for a fully custom Medjai dagger build.
What other Egyptian-themed swords do you offer?
Our Egyptian collection includes the Hellboy II Khopesh Sword (Egyptian-fantasy hybrid), all Khopesh Swords (the ancient pharaoh battlefield blade carried by Tutankhamun), and various Scimitar Swords (closely related curved blade family).
Will I have to pay customs duties?
International orders may incur customs duties, VAT, GST, or import taxes charged by your country's customs authority on arrival. These are paid directly by you on delivery, not included in the order total.
How long until I receive my order?
Total typical timeline 8–15 business days. Forging and finishing in our Kathmandu workshop takes 3–5 business days. DHL Express or FedEx International delivery takes another 5–10 business days. Custom configurations may take longer.
Do you ship Medjai swords to my country?
We ship to most countries worldwide via DHL Express and FedEx International. Some countries restrict the import of swords, including Australia, the UK, and parts of the EU. Contact us if unsure about your country's import laws before ordering.
