How We Measure?

Understanding Blade Length, Handle Length & Overall Length

When choosing a forged blade, it's important to understand the measurements that define its size, balance, and usability. At Everest Forge, we provide three key measurements for each knife, kukri, sword, or machete: blade length, handle length, and overall length. Here's what each one means:

Blade Length

Blade length is measured from the tip of the blade to the or where the blade meets the handle. It does not include the handle or guard. This measurement tells you the functional cutting length of the blade — important for chopping, slicing, or combat use.

Handle Length

Handle length is measured from the guard (or start of the handle) to the end of the pommel. This gives you a clear idea of the gripping area and how the blade will fit in your hand. Longer handles may offer two-handed grip, while shorter ones are designed for compact or single-hand use.

Overall Length

Overall length is the combined measurement of the blade and handle — from the tip of the blade to the end of the pommel. This total length is useful for understanding the full size of the blade for carry, storage, or display.

We list all three measurements clearly on each product so you can choose the right blade for your needs — whether it's for bushcraft, collection, combat, or ceremonial use.
