Long Seax Sword — 18-Inch Hand-Forged Fullered Viking Blade with Leather-Wrapped Grip & Steel Pommel
This is a hand-forged long seax sword — an 18-inch single-edged Viking blade forged in Nepal from 5160 leaf-spring steel, full-tang and water-tempered, lightened by a central fuller to just 475 grams. Also written long sax, it pairs a fast, polished fullered blade with an 8-inch leather-wrapped grip, a steel guard and a faceted steel pommel — the quickest, most modern-handling seax in our range.
Hand-forged to order in Kathmandu · Backed by 5 verified customer reviews
The seax was the blade of the Saxons, carried by Viking warriors and Germanic tribes as tool and sidearm alike. This long seax revives that sword-length form in a lighter, faster build: a fuller runs down the blade to cut weight without losing reach, so at 475 grams it moves quickly in the hand while keeping the presence of a 26-inch blade overall.
Its 8-inch full tang — the longest grip in our seax line — is wrapped in leather over rosewood for a secure hold, finished with a steel guard and a pointed steel pommel for a clean, modern Norse-warrior look. You choose the wrap colour and the scabbard colour to match, so two of these are rarely the same.
Honest note: this is an original Everest Forge interpretation of the Viking long seax — historically inspired rather than a museum-exact replica, and the steel guard and pommel are modern fittings rather than strict period reconstruction. It is live steel — sharp, full-tang and functional — made for cutting, reenactment, collection and display, but not for contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring. Want a period-correct build? That is a custom order.

Choose your options →A Lighter, Faster Long Seax
Most long seaxes are heavy in the hand. This one is built the other way. A fuller — the groove running down the blade — removes steel from the centre where it is needed least, dropping the weight to around 475 grams while keeping the blade stiff. The result is a long seax that handles like a much shorter blade: quick to bring up, easy to control, and still long enough to reach. Paired with the extended 8-inch leather-wrapped grip, it is the seax to choose if speed and handling matter as much as presence.

Caring for Your High-Carbon Seax
5160 is a high-carbon steel and will surface-rust if neglected. Keep the blade dry, wipe it down after handling, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage. Keep the leather wrap and scabbard dry too, and for long-term storage keep the seax out of its scabbard so the edge stays dry.

What is a long seax sword?
A long seax — also written long sax — is the sword-length version of the seax, the single-edged blade carried across the Saxon and Viking world. Where a short seax served as a utility knife, the long seax was a primary sidearm. This one is an 18-inch fullered long seax that handles fast and light.
Why is this seax so light?
It weighs around 475 grams — the lightest in our range — because a fuller runs down the blade, removing steel from the centre to cut weight while keeping the blade stiff. That makes it quick to handle for a 26-inch blade.
What is the fuller for?
The fuller is the groove down the blade. It lightens the blade and balances it without weakening it — often called a blood groove, though its real job is weight and balance. It is part of what makes this long seax fast in the hand.
Is it a sword or a knife?
At 18 inches it is sword-length and handles as a single-edged short sword, while keeping the everyday usefulness the seax was known for. The long seax sits between large knife and short sword by design.
What is the handle like?
It has an 8-inch full tang — the longest grip in our seax line — in rosewood wrapped with leather, finished with a steel guard and a faceted steel pommel for a clean, modern Norse-warrior look. You choose the wrap colour.
Can I choose the colours?
Yes. You pick the leather handle-wrap colour and the scabbard colour independently — black, brown, red, yellow, green or blue — so you can match or contrast them.
What steel is it made from, and is it full tang?
It is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf-spring steel, water-tempered for toughness and edge retention, and built full-tang for strength and balance. That makes it a functional working sword, not a display-only piece.
Does it come sharpened and ready to use?
Yes. Each blade is hand-sharpened and ready to use on arrival. It is live steel — sharp and functional — so it is not suited to contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring.
What blade lengths can I order?
The standard blade is 18 inches. You can order it from 16 inches up to 26 inches for more reach and presence.
Does it come with a scabbard?
Yes. Every Long Seax Sword ships with a wooden-core scabbard wrapped in yak leather, in your chosen colour.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide by tracked, insured DHL or FedEx with secure checkout. Please check edged-weapon import rules for your country before ordering, as they vary.
How do I care for the blade?
Keep this high-carbon blade dry, wipe it after handling, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage. Keep the leather wrap dry too, and for long-term storage keep the seax out of its scabbard so the edge stays dry.
