The Steward of Gondor is a Boromir-inspired fantasy arming sword, hand-forged in Kathmandu, Nepal from 5160 high carbon spring steel and water-tempered for real performance. 36 inches overall: a 27-inch double-edged fullered blade with a 9-inch red leather-wrapped grip, a gracefully curved brass crossguard, and a brass pommel, finished with a red leather scabbard. Full tang, hand-sharpened, with the noble Gondorian character of the legendary cinematic saga. Customise the blade finish, blade length, handle wrap colour and scabbard colour, with free personalisation and engraving. Worldwide shipping via DHL Express & FedEx International. 30-day satisfaction guarantee. 6-month warranty.

The Steward of Gondor is a fantasy-style arming sword inspired by the blade carried by Boromir of Gondor in the legendary cinematic saga — the Captain of the White Tower, eldest son of the Steward, and one of the most beloved warriors in all of high fantasy. Designed to reflect the strength, honour and battlefield presence of Gondor's defenders, this sword pairs a straight, fullered knightly blade with a curved brass crossguard and a deep-red leather hilt, capturing the heroic dignity of Middle-earth's greatest realm of men.

This Everest Forge sword is hand-forged in our Kathmandu workshop from 5160 high carbon spring steel and water-tempered for the balance of edge retention and resilience a real working blade demands, with a full tang running the depth of the handle. The 27-inch double-edged blade carries a broad central fuller for lightness and balance, the crossguard curves gently toward the blade in the classic Gondorian manner, and the grip and scabbard are dressed in rich red leather — a bold custom colourway that sets this piece apart.

Small note: this is an original Everest Forge design, inspired by the Boromir / Gondor style from the Lord of the Rings films. It is not an official or licensed replica, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any film studio or rights-holder. Each blade is individually hand-forged, so small natural variations make every one unique.

The Sword of Gondor in Fantasy Lore

Few fictional blades carry the emotional weight of Boromir's sword. As the heir to the Stewardship of Gondor, Boromir wields a sword fit for a warrior of men — a leaf-influenced, double-edged arming blade balanced for both the slash and the thrust, with a crossguard that curves toward the blade for a silhouette that is at once elegant and aggressive. It is the sword he carries through the Fellowship's journey and the one he wields in his final, redemptive stand defending his companions — a blade that becomes a symbol of courage and sacrifice.

Tolkien, a medieval scholar, drew Boromir's sword from real 12th to 13th-century European arming swords, which is why our Steward of Gondor feels equally at home in a historical collection and a fantasy display. We have rendered it in a bold red-and-brass colourway of our own — a custom interpretation that honours the Gondorian character while making the piece distinctly Everest Forge. It sits naturally alongside the rest of our modern and fantasy swords collection.

What Makes This Hand-Forged Gondor Sword Different

The market is full of cast-metal, stainless "movie swords" — wall-hangers with screwed-on pommels and no real forging behind them. The Steward of Gondor is the opposite: a genuinely hand-forged, full-tang arming sword in real working steel, dressed in a custom red-and-brass colourway you will not find on a mass-produced replica.

The blade is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel — the same battle-grade steel we use across our combat swords — water-tempered, with a broad central fuller drawn into the blade rather than ground in as decoration. The curved crossguard and pommel are solid brass for a warm, noble contrast, and the grip and scabbard are wrapped in rich red leather. Nothing is cast as a single decorative unit; this is a sword built to be handled and displayed with pride.

It is offered at the most accessible price in its range for a hand-forged, full-tang fantasy arming sword of this quality — and every customisation is included rather than billed as an upcharge on the page. For collectors and fans who want a Boromir-inspired blade in real steel rather than a stamped souvenir, this is the right tier. Explore the wider range in our historical swords collection.

Customise Your Steward of Gondor Sword

Every Steward of Gondor sword is hand-forged to order in our Kathmandu workshop. Select your options on this page and specify any extra details in the order notes at checkout.

Blade Finishing

Choose the surface character of your blade — a clean satin finish for an understated knightly look, a bright polished / mirror finish that plays against the brass and red leather, or a darker blacked / coated finish for a moodier, battle-worn presence.

Blade Length

The standard Steward of Gondor carries a 27-inch blade for a balanced, full arming sword. Prefer something shorter and easier to display or handle? Select a shorter blade length — sized to the look and balance you want.

Handle Wrap Colour

The grip is wrapped in red leather as standard — the heart of this custom Gondorian look. You can also choose black, brown, green or other leather colours to recolour the hilt to your own taste.

Scabbard Colour

Your sword ships with a matching red leather scabbard by default. Choose a different colour — black, brown, green and more — to match or contrast the hilt and suit your display.

Free Personalisation & Engraving

Add a name, initials or a short inscription to make the blade your own, or upload a custom logo or photo for bespoke engraving. A personalised Steward of Gondor makes a memorable gift for a Lord of the Rings fan or a special occasion.

Variant or Custom Build

Want a fully bespoke Gondorian sword — different fittings, a particular blade geometry, or a longsword build? Use our Custom Forge service and our smiths will forge it from scratch. Explore more heroic blades in our modern and fantasy swords range.

The 4-Step Forging Process

1

Steel Selection

5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs, cut to billet for your sword.

2

Hand Forging

Heated and hammered to shape, drawing out the straight double-edged blade, its central fuller, and the full tang from the same billet.

3

Water Temper

Quenched and water-tempered for the balance of edge hardness and impact resilience a working blade needs.

4

Brass & Leather Fitting

Curved brass crossguard and pommel fitted over the tang, the grip wrapped in red leather, and a matching red leather scabbard built to fit. Engraving applied and quality-checked before shipping.

Care & Maintenance

Oil the blade regularly. 5160 carbon steel will surface-rust if neglected. Wipe the blade with mineral oil, gun oil, or food-grade camellia oil after handling and periodically during storage. The 27-inch blade has a lot of surface area — oil the full length.

Care for the leather and brass. Condition the red leather grip and scabbard with leather balm or beeswax every few months to prevent drying and keep the colour rich. Brass develops a natural patina over time; a gentle metal polish restores the bright finish if you prefer it shiny.

Store thoughtfully. Do not store the blade sealed inside a damp scabbard for long periods. For long-term storage, keep the sword lightly oiled and the scabbard somewhere dry and ventilated, out of prolonged direct sun.

Respect the edge. This is a sharpened live blade. Handle, draw and sheathe it with care, keep it away from children, and use it only for its intended display, collection and controlled purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Steward of Gondor sword?

It is a hand-forged fantasy arming sword and an original Everest Forge design, inspired by the blade carried by Boromir of Gondor in the Lord of the Rings films. It pairs a straight, fullered 5160 spring steel blade with a curved brass crossguard, brass pommel, and a custom red leather grip and scabbard, capturing the noble Gondorian character in real working steel.

Is this an official licensed Lord of the Rings replica?

No. This is an original Everest Forge design inspired by the Boromir / Gondor style, not an official or licensed replica, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by any film studio or rights-holder. We offer a real hand-forged sword in that heroic design language rather than a licensed collectible.

Is it a real, functional sword?

Yes. It is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel, water-tempered, and built around a full tang that runs the entire length of the handle. It is a genuine working arming sword, well suited to display, collection, cosplay and reenactment, plus controlled functional use — though not for contact sparring or LARP.

What steel is used, and how is it heat-treated?

The blade is hand-forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel reclaimed from truck leaf springs, and water-tempered for a balance of edge retention and resilience. The blade carries a broad central fuller and the tang runs the full length of the handle for strength.

Are the guard and pommel really brass?

Yes — the curved crossguard and the pommel are solid brass, chosen for the warm, noble contrast they create against the bright blade and the deep-red leather of the hilt and scabbard. Brass develops a natural patina over time, which can be polished back to a bright finish if preferred.

Can I change the handle wrap and scabbard colours?

Yes. Both the handle wrap and the scabbard come in red leather as standard — the signature look of this sword — but you can choose other leather colours such as black, brown or green for either, mixing and matching to suit your display.

Can I change the blade length?

Yes. The standard blade is 27 inches for a balanced arming sword, but you can select a shorter length if you prefer something easier to display or handle. For lengths or builds beyond the listed options, use our Custom Forge service.

Does it come sharpened?

Yes — the standard Steward of Gondor ships sharpened and ready to handle. If you would prefer a safer display edge, request an unsharpened display edge in your order notes and we will finish it that way at no extra charge.

Can I have it engraved or personalised?

Yes. You can add a name, initials or a short inscription, or upload a custom logo or photo for bespoke engraving. Personalisation is included free and makes the Steward of Gondor a memorable gift for a Lord of the Rings fan.

How does this differ from your Sword of Boromir listing?

Our original Sword of Boromir is a closer tribute to the on-screen blade with a 22-inch blade. The Steward of Gondor is a larger 27-inch custom interpretation in a distinctive red-and-brass colourway, with red leather grip and scabbard. Same heroic inspiration, different size and a bolder custom dress.

How is it shipped, and how long does it take?

We ship worldwide by tracked DHL Express or FedEx International from Kathmandu. Forging takes 3–5 business days, engraving may add 2–3 days, and international delivery takes 5–10 business days — typically 8–15 business days from order to delivery. Some countries restrict sword imports, so check local laws first.

How do I care for the blade?

Keep the high carbon steel dry and lightly oiled to prevent rust, wipe it down after handling, and avoid storing it sealed in a damp scabbard for long periods. Condition the red leather grip and scabbard periodically, and keep them out of prolonged damp and direct sun.
