Celtic Warrior Sword — 25-Inch Hand-Forged La Tène Iron Age Blade with Customisable Length

The Everest Forge Celtic Warrior Sword is a hand-forged tribute to the long, straight slashing swords carried by Iron Age Celtic warriors across Gaul and ancient Europe during the La Tène period (circa 450 BC to the Roman conquest). Hand-forged in Kathmandu by Nepalese master smiths from 5160 high carbon spring steel (recycled truck leaf-spring stock), water-tempered, full-tang construction. 25-inch straight double-edge blade, 7-inch solid brass handle, leather-wrapped wooden scabbard. Total length 32 inches. Available in seven blade lengths from 18 to 30 inches — built for collectors, reenactors, cutting practice, and lovers of Celtic history.

This isn't a wall-hanger. It's a real functional sword built to the same standards as our combat-grade gladii and kukris — hand-forged 5160 spring steel, water-quenched, full-tang, sharpened to a working edge. Whether you are building an ancient-European arms collection, kitting out for Iron Age reenactment, or simply want a bold Celtic blade with genuine presence, the Celtic Warrior Sword delivers both the look of the La Tène era and real-world performance. The polished brass hilt is what sets it apart — the boldest, most striking handle in our La Tène line.

Note: This is a historically inspired original Everest Forge design, not an exact museum reproduction of any single excavated piece. Slight variations in weight, dimensions, or finish may occur due to the handmade nature of the item. It is live, sharpened, full-tang steel intended for collecting, display, and cutting practice — not for edge-on-edge contact sparring or LARP.

The Celtic Warrior and the La Tène Sword

The La Tène culture gave Iron Age Europe its signature weapon: a long, straight, double-edged sword built to slash from horseback and in open formation. The Gaulish and Gallic warriors who carried such blades ranged from the Atlantic to Central Europe, and the swords are named after La Tène, a site on Lake Neuchatel in Switzerland where hundreds of Celtic weapons were recovered.

The Celtic Warrior Sword carries that lineage. If you have searched for a celtic war sword, a Celtic warrior's blade, or an Iron Age Celtic sword, this is the long fighting sword you were picturing — reborn as functional steel and crowned with a brass hilt that gives it the presence of a true warrior's weapon. The straight double-edge profile is faithful to the La Tène form: this was a cutting sword, not a thrusting one, and not the leaf-shaped blade of the earlier Bronze Age.

Our hand-forged version honours the spirit of the Celtic warrior rather than copying a museum cast. The 25-inch standard blade gives it real reach and weight, while remaining a fully functional 5160 spring steel sword you can take to the cutting stand.

Why This Celtic Warrior Sword Stands Apart

Real Hand Forging

Heated in a coal forge and hammered on the anvil by Nepalese master smiths — not stamped, cast, or mass-produced.

5160 Spring Steel

Recycled truck leaf-spring stock — the same high carbon steel professional bladesmiths use for combat-grade swords. Water-tempered.

Full-Tang Construction

A single piece of steel from blade tip to pommel — no welded joints to fail under stress.

7 Blade Lengths

Choose from 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, or 30 inches. Match your purpose — display, reenactment, or cutting practice.

Solid Brass Hilt

The signature of this sword — a polished solid brass handle with a striking antique-bronze look and a firm, balanced grip.

Free Engraving

Add your name, initials, a date, or Celtic-style motifs to the blade. Included at no extra charge.

Hand-Forged Sword vs Decorative Wall-Hanger

Search for a Celtic sword online and you will find two very different types of product:

Type 1: mass-produced decorative replicas. Stamped or cast stainless steel, hollow or rat-tail tangs, no real edge, no customisation. They look like display pieces but will not stand up to real use.

Type 2 (this one): a genuine hand-forged sword in real 5160 spring steel, full-tang, water-tempered, customisable across seven blade lengths. Built to the same standards as our combat-grade Roman gladii and Nepalese kukris, forged by Nepalese master smiths and made to order.

The difference is fundamental: this is a real sword, not a decoration. Cared for properly, it will outlast any wall-hanger replica by decades.

Storage: store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage inside the leather scabbard. A display stand or wall mount is recommended.

Brass hilt: polish the solid brass handle with a soft cloth to keep its shine.

Rust spots: light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and is easily removed with very fine steel wool (grade 0000) and a few drops of oil.

Sharpening: use a quality whetstone at 22 to 25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Celtic Warrior Sword?

It is a hand-forged La Tène-style sword from the Celtic Iron Age tradition — a long, straight, double-edged slashing blade with a solid brass hilt. The standard build is 25 inches in 5160 spring steel, made as an original Everest Forge design inspired by the warriors of ancient Europe (circa 450 BC to the Roman conquest).

Is the Celtic Warrior Sword a real, functional sword?

Yes. It is live, full-tang, sharpened steel, water-quenched and tempered for a working edge, suited to collecting, display, and cutting practice. It is not designed for edge-on-edge contact sparring or LARP, where a blunt training blade is the right choice — and a blunt display edge is available at no extra charge.

Is this the same as a Celtic war sword?

Yes. A Celtic warrior sword, a Celtic war sword, and a La Tène-era fighting sword all describe the same long Iron Age slashing blade. The names simply reflect different ways people search for the warrior swords of the ancient Celts.

What steel is the blade forged from?

The blade is forged from reclaimed 5160 high carbon spring steel — the same tough, resilient steel once used in vehicle leaf springs. It is well suited to a functional slashing sword that needs to take an edge and absorb impact.

Is the handle really solid brass?

Yes, the standard handle is solid brass, which gives the sword its distinctive look and a firm, balanced grip. If you prefer a different feel, you can also choose rosewood, white-wood (sadhan), or horn from the handle options.

What blade lengths can I order?

The standard build is 25 inches, and the length menu offers 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 inches. Choose the size that suits your reach, your cutting needs, or your display space.

What blade finishes are available?

You can choose Satin, Polished or Mirror, Raw or Forge, or Blacked or Coated. Satin is the everyday classic, polished gives a bright sheen, raw keeps the forged texture, and blacked adds a dark coated finish.

Does it come with a scabbard?

Yes. Each sword ships with a fitted scabbard — a wooden core wrapped in leather — available in six colours. It holds the blade securely for storage and display.

Can I personalise or engrave the sword?

Yes. You can add a name, initials, a date, or a short motto, or upload a logo or photo for custom engraving. Standard engraving is included at no extra charge.

How heavy is the sword?

The standard build weighs approximately 1.8 kilograms. The solid brass hilt adds real heft and presence, and as every sword is handcrafted the exact weight varies slightly from piece to piece.

How is the sword shipped?

It ships worldwide from our forge in Kathmandu with full tracking on a DDP basis, meaning duties and taxes are prepaid before it leaves Nepal. You receive your sword with nothing further to pay on delivery.

How do I care for the blade?

Keep the blade dry and lightly oiled, since 5160 is a high carbon steel that can rust. Wipe it down after handling, store it out of the scabbard in humid conditions, and polish the brass hilt with a soft cloth. Cared for this way, the sword will last for generations.
