Fully battle-ready. The blade is 5160 high-carbon leaf-spring steel, full-tang, water-tempered along the edge, and pre-sharpened at the forge — meeting our battle-ready standard. At oversized scale the weight (1.6-2 kg) requires good grip strength for extended one-handed use, especially above 30" blade length. For controlled cutting drills, choreographed display, or two-handed cutting practice, the Large Kopis performs at the same standard as every other battle-ready sword in our range.

Yes — the 9-inch handle (versus the 7-inch handle on our standard Kopis range) is specifically designed to give two-handed clearance at the longer blade lengths. At 32, 34, and 36 inches blade length, the Large Kopis is genuinely a two-handed Greek longsword / greatsword. At 26-30 inches it remains primarily one-handed (the standard cavalry grip). At 32 inches there's crossover — strong one-handed for trained users, comfortable two-handed for everyone. Pick your blade length based on your intended grip style.

Yes — many of our Large Kopis customers buy it specifically for fantasy collection, cosplay character kit, RPG-inspired commissions, or oversized fantasy wall display. The forward-curving Greek Kopis profile reads visually as a "barbarian sword" or "warrior's two-handed blade" in fantasy and RPG contexts, so the same physical product works equally for historical Greek reenactment and fantasy character builds. Important caveat: this is a sharp battle-ready sword, not a LARP-safe foam sword. It's not suitable for live-action sparring with other people — but it's ideal for static cosplay display, photoshoots, costume completion, and fantasy-grade collection display where real steel matters.

The Large Kopis goes up to 36 inches blade length (45 inches overall) through the standard Blade Length option on this product page. If you need longer than 36 inches — a true oversized statement sword, an extreme fantasy commission, or a specific historical reconstruction — we accept commissions through our custom forge process. We have forged Kopis-style oversized blades up to 42 inches blade length on commission. Custom-length blades require additional handling, heat-treatment infrastructure, and shipping (oversized parcel rates apply), so production time extends to 6-8 weeks at extreme lengths.

Approximately 1,600 grams (1.6 kg / 3.5 lbs) at the standard 28-inch blade. Weight scales meaningfully with blade length:

• 30 inches: approximately 1.7 kg

The weight is forward-balanced, with most of the mass in the belly of the recurved blade. That concentrates chopping authority at the impact point — historically the reason the Kopis was favored by cavalry — but it also means the heavier oversized variants require commitment in the swing. Two-handed grip at 32"+ recovers control noticeably versus one-handed.

Standard Kopis production is 2-4 weeks. The Large Kopis adds time because oversized blades require longer heat treatment, more careful tempering, and specialized handling at the workshop. Realistic production time is 3 to 5 weeks for blades 26-32 inches, and 4 to 6 weeks for 34-36 inch blades. Engraving, custom logos, and rare scabbard color combinations can add 3-7 days. After forging we ship via DHL or FedEx with oversized parcel handling (the larger box does add modest extra shipping cost depending on destination).

5160 high-carbon spring steel — leaf-spring stock recycled from heavy-duty vehicle suspension. Tough, springy, holds an edge well. Hammer-forged from a single billet (no welding or lamination), water-tempered along the edge, and hand-finished. This is the same steel used across our entire battle-ready sword range. At oversized scale the 5160 properties matter even more than on smaller blades — the steel needs to flex slightly under impact without taking permanent set, which is exactly what spring steel is engineered to do.

The oversized blade gives engraving more visual real estate to work with — engraving is significantly more dramatic on a 28-36 inch blade than on a smaller Kopis.

Oversized parcel handling applies at the 32"+ blade length — the shipping box is larger and carriers price these as oversized rather than standard parcels.
