The khopesh (also spelled khepesh, kopesh, or sappara) is one of the oldest swords in human history, originating in Sumerian Mesopotamia around 2500 BCE and spreading throughout ancient Egypt by the New Kingdom era (1550–1070 BCE). Care & Maintenance

After every use: Wipe the blade clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of light oil (mineral oil, camellia oil, or 3-in-1 oil).

Storage: Store in a dry environment. Avoid long-term storage in the leather scabbard. Display stand or wall mount recommended.

Rust spots: Light surface rust is normal on 5160 carbon steel and easily removed with very fine steel wool (#0000 grade) and a few drops of oil.

Sharpening: Use a quality whetstone (1000-grit working) at 22–25 degrees per side. Avoid power grinders, which can ruin the temper.

Brass & gold-tone fittings: Polish occasionally with a soft dry cloth (no abrasives or chemicals). Light tarnish on brass adds character — if removal preferred, use a brass-specific polish.
