Why Buy Your Kukri from Everest Forge
Everest Forge is owned by Deepak Sunar, a member of the Kami caste — the hereditary blacksmithing caste of Nepal whose families have forged kukris for generations. Our 10 Kami blacksmiths hand-forge every blade individually in our Kathmandu workshop. No production line, no machine pressing, no mass-stamped blades.
We have supplied kukris to three of Nepal's most trusted military and law enforcement institutions:
→ British Gurkha Army — BSI Service No.1 Kukri (2008)
→ Nepal Army — Official kukri supply (2015–2018)
→ Nepal Police — Official kukri supply (2016–2017)
The same standards that earned those military supply contracts go into every kukri sold here today. Every blade is forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel (truck leaf-spring stock — exactly what traditional Nepali Kamis have always used), water-tempered for a hard cutting edge backed by a tough, flexible spine, and shipped with a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard, karda (utility knife), and chakmak (sharpener).

How to Choose the Right Kukri for You
The kukri — also spelled khukuri, kukuri, or khukri — is the traditional curved blade of Nepal, recognized worldwide as the iconic weapon and tool of the Gurkha soldier. Both "kukri" and "khukuri" spellings refer to the same blade — "khukuri" is the Nepali transliteration, "kukri" is the anglicized spelling popularised by the British Army during the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814–1816).
The right kukri depends on what you'll do with it. Use this quick guide to find your category:
For everyday carry and light field work → Small EDC Kukri (under 10 inches, lightweight, comfortable on the belt all day).
For chopping wood, clearing brush, farm and bush work → Heavy-Duty Working Kukri (thick spine, full weight forward, built for hard hours).
For collectors and Gurkha enthusiasts → Historical Replica Kukri (MK1, MK2, Hanshee, WWI/WWII patterns) or Current Issue Military Kukri (BSI Service No.1, the actual blade we supplied to the British Gurkha Army).
For ceremonial use, gifts, presentation pieces → Kothimora Kukri (silver-mounted scabbards, regimental badges, dress kukris) or Etched & Engraved Kukri.
For traditional Nepali patterns → Traditional Kukri (Sirupate, Bhojpure, Angkhola, Panawal — the regional designs that defined the kukri).
For something the size of a sword → Kukri Swords or Large Blade Kukri (15"+).
For survival, tactical, and combat fusion designs → Hybrid Kukri (modern materials, guard, paracord, tactical handles).
For something fully unique → Request a Custom Kukri. Send us your sketch or specs and our blacksmiths will forge it to your exact design — handle, blade length, fuller pattern, scabbard, your choice.
Traditional Kukri Patterns at a Glance
Sirupate — Slim, leaf-shaped blade named after the siru grass leaf. Light, fast, agile. Eastern Nepal origin.
Bhojpure — Broader, heavier blade from the Bhojpur region. Heavy chopping power, the workhorse pattern.
Angkhola — Means "body groove" — features a deep fuller along the spine. Lightens the blade without losing strength.
Chirra — Fullered blade, available in dui chirra (double) and tin chirra (triple). Reduces weight, distributes balance, improves cutting efficiency.
Panawal — Full-tang construction (tang runs the full length of the handle). Maximum durability for hard use.
Hanshee — Long, slender, historic profile from the late 18th–19th century. Combat-favored.
Service No.1 (BSI) — The standard-issue kukri for British Gurkha soldiers. We supplied this exact pattern to the British Gurkha Army in 2008.
Kothimora — Ceremonial kukri with a silver-mounted scabbard, often featuring regimental badges. Presentation and dress use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is "kukri" the same as "khukuri"?
Yes. Both spellings refer to the same traditional Nepali curved blade. "Khukuri" is the Nepali transliteration; "kukri" is the anglicized version popularised by the British Army. You'll also see "kukuri" and "khukri." All refer to the same knife.
How much does a real hand-forged kukri cost?
Our kukris range from around $74 for a compact EDC kukri up to $224 for a Kothimora ceremonial kukri with silver-mounted scabbard. Most full-size working and military kukris fall between $130–$190. Prices reflect the time and skill of an individual Kami blacksmith forging each blade by hand — not a machine-stamped production knife.
What steel are your kukris made from?
Every kukri is forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel — sourced from truck leaf-spring stock, exactly the material traditional Nepali Kamis have used for generations. 5160 is prized for its toughness, edge retention, and ability to take a water-temper that produces a hard cutting edge with a flexible, shock-absorbing spine.
Are these kukris battle-ready or just decorative?
Battle-ready and fully functional. Every kukri is forged to the same standards we used for the British Gurkha Army, Nepal Army, and Nepal Police supply contracts — water-tempered 5160 spring steel, sharpened to a working edge, full tang where the design requires it. These are working blades, not wall hangers.
Can I get my kukri personalised or engraved?
Yes — engraving is free on every blade. Add a name, date, regiment, dedication, or short message at checkout and our blacksmiths will hand-engrave it on the blade before shipping. We send photos for your approval before the kukri leaves the workshop.
How long does delivery take?
Forging takes 5–7 days (each kukri is made to order, not pulled from a warehouse), then 5–7 days for express shipping — about 10–14 days door to door. Custom orders may take a little longer depending on complexity. We'll keep you updated through every stage and send photos before shipping.
Do you ship to my country?
We ship worldwide. Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Germany, and most of the EU have established DDP routes — meaning duties and taxes are handled upfront with no customs surprises on delivery. For other destinations, contact us before ordering and we'll confirm shipping options and any local restrictions.
Can I commission a fully custom kukri?
Yes. Send us a sketch, photo, or specs through our Custom Forge page — choose blade length, fuller pattern, handle material, scabbard style, and engraving. Our Kami blacksmiths will forge it to your design. Custom kukris come with the same photo approval and 30-day refund guarantee as everything else we make.
What's your refund policy?
30-day full refund guarantee. If your kukri arrives and isn't what you expected, contact us within 30 days for a full refund. We also send you photos of the finished blade before it ships, so you have the chance to request changes before the kukri leaves Nepal.
