How to Use Everest Forge Blades – Instructions for Safe Handling

At Everest Forge, we provide meticulously crafted blades designed for precision, durability, and reliability. Whether you're using a Kukri, Machete, Bowie knife, or any other blade, it's important to use them correctly to ensure their optimal performance and to prevent accidents. Follow the instructions below for safe handling and effective use.

1. Handling and Gripping Your Blade

  • Firm Grip: Always maintain a secure grip on the handle to avoid slippage. Ensure your hands are dry to maintain control, especially when working with larger blades like Machetes or Kukris.

  • Proper Stance: When using larger blades, position your body in a stable stance with feet shoulder-width apart. This gives you better control and prevents loss of balance when cutting.

  • Correct Hand Position: For precise cutting (with knives or daggers), hold the blade with a comfortable grip, ensuring your hand is away from the cutting edge. For chopping tasks with a Kukri or Machete, make sure to grip firmly near the handle to maintain control and reduce strain on your wrist.

2. Cutting and Chopping with Your Blade

  • Cutting Away from the Body: Always cut away from your body and limbs to avoid injury. When performing tasks like slicing, chopping, or skinning, focus on controlled, slow strokes rather than quick or jerky movements.

  • Use a Stable Surface: For tasks like chopping wood with a Machete or Kukri, ensure the material is secure on a solid, flat surface, such as a chopping block, to prevent the blade from bouncing or getting stuck.

  • Follow the Blade’s Purpose: Each blade is designed for a specific purpose. Use your Kukri for chopping branches and clearing brush, your Machete for cutting thick vegetation, and your Bowie knife for more detailed, precision cutting tasks.

3. Maintenance After Use

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the blade thoroughly to remove dirt, sap, or any debris. Use warm water and a soft cloth. For stubborn residue, a mild soap solution works best.

  • Drying: Always dry the blade completely after cleaning. This prevents rust and keeps the edge sharp.

  • Oiling: Apply a thin coat of oil (like mineral oil or vegetable oil) on the blade after drying to protect it from moisture and rust. This is especially important for blades used outdoors.

4. Storing Your Blade Safely

  • Use Sheaths: Always store your blade in a sheath or protective cover when not in use. This protects the edge from damage and prevents accidental cuts.

  • Safe Storage Location: Store your blade in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures or moisture. Avoid leaving your blade in a damp or humid area, as this can cause corrosion over time.

5. Blade Sharpening and Maintenance

  • Sharpen Regularly: A dull blade is less efficient and more dangerous. Regularly sharpen your Kukri, Machete, or other knives using a sharpening stone or honing tool. For fine-edge blades like Daggers or Bowie knives, use a finer sharpening tool to maintain the blade’s edge.

  • Inspect the Blade: Before and after each use, inspect your blade for any signs of wear or damage. Check the handle for tightness and ensure the edge is intact.
